Chapter 4

The journal was amazing. I learned all about mom' s old crushes, and the first time she met my dad. That's right. My mom had this for 12 years. It was thick so it made sense. I also read about the first 5 leaved clover she had ever saw. 5 LEAVES. Wow! However there was some missing pages but I thought ' eh whatever '. Then when I got up I saw something fall out of it. A necklace.
The necklace was gold and rusty. It was simply a heart. However what was strange about it was it had hinges on it. Hmmmm. A necklace with hinges. I found the latch, and tried to open it but it didn't budge. I pulled as hard as possible, but nothing happened.
I put it around my neck and went downstairs to get a snack. When I enter the kitchen Granny is cooking dinner, and Matt is watching Disney Channel when Grandma sees my necklace and says,
" Where'd you get that?! " she said as she runs over and gentley picks up the heart charm with the necklace still around my neck.
" I found it in my mom's room- well my room. "
" It was my great-great grandmother's. Your great-great-great Grandmother's. Your mother was planning on giving it to you for your birthday this year, so she hid it here in her old diary. A place where she thought you'd never find it. " she said.
" but she never did because, well, yeah... " I guessed, or I knew.
After that Granny kissed me, and we sat down for dinner. She told us about Matt's new school Lincoln Elementary School, and mine Grove's Meadow middle school. I was worried. Matt would be all alone with no protection. I was responsible for him. I couldn't let anything happen to him. Them Granny told me not to worry. Matt,'s school, and my school were down the street from each other.
Sure that made me feel a lot better, but I still was afraid for myself. I never had to walk on the main road to pick up Matt, and then walk back home. Mom used to pick us up every day. Now my whole life was different from that day forward.
Everyday I'd pick up Matt, and walk home. Same thing every day. Until one day things were different. The bell rang at school. Students flooded out the doors. I was walking out, thinking about the necklace I found. I wanted to open it. See what was inside it. When I turned out of the school parking lot into the main road I felt a sense of danger run through me, and chill down my spine. I started to walk a little faster.
' No big deal. ' I told myself not knowing what was about to happen.
I walked faster.
I reached the stop light. I pressed the button and wait there eagerly for the little man on the black square to show up. When I could walk I ran across the street. That's right I ran not knowing what was about to happen. Right there an arm reached out from a really big bush and pulled me in.
" shut up!" a voice whispered to me.
" Or I'll kill you. " the voice said bringing a gun to my head.
