The Only Exception

Part #13

I wake to a crack of lightning and the roar of thunder. I quickly duck under the bed and cover myself with the blankets. I hear the bed creak over head and Gareki's cursing under his breath. I quiver as another roar of thunder reverberates throughout the room. Then I whimper as I hear Gareki's scream, "Where's Nai?!" "I don't know maybe you scared him off you brute!!" Mitzi screams back. "Shut up you old hag!" "You shut up you jerk!" Then I hear a slam of the door and glass breaking. I peak out from under the bed to see that Mitzi threw her glass at Gareki but he went out the door and slammed it before it hit him. I slowly crawl out from under the bed and cover my ears as lightning lights up the sky followed by a massive crack. I get up shakily and look at Mitzi. "Where's Gareki?" " He went out, he'll probably be back later." She answers quickly and seems agitated so I leave her alone.

I stare at the clock occasionally and sit on the bed. I put pillows over my ears so the storms noises won't reach them. Then I hear the door open and Gareki stands in the frame. I run up forgetting my pillows and hug him tightly. He hugs me back leaning down slightly to kiss my temple. I laugh slightly and whip my head around to see Mitzi stomping toward us. She starts running and before I can stop her Gareki pushes me behind him and puts up his knee to stop her from ramming her fists into his stomach. Unfortunately she rams her stomach into his knee and falls to the ground. She grabs her stomach and lunges at him. He was caught off guard by this and he grabs his face in pain as she slammed her foot into it. He has a bloody nose and is sure to have a black eye and walks toward Mitzi picking up a glass on the way. Before I can will myself to move he throws the glass at her as she throws the shards from another broken glass at him. "I hate you get away from us! All you do is hurt us and cause trouble!" The glass barely misses her as she curls herself into a ball on the floor. The shards land in front of Gareki's feet and he seems taken aback by that statement. "Fine then." He walks to the room and flops onto the bed. I run after him and stand next to the bed. "Gareki are you really going to leave us?" I ask my voice cracking slightly. Gareki gets up and walks over to me. He pulls me into an embrace and draws small circles into my back with his hand while the other cradles my head. "I would never leave you, I love you too much." I look up with tears already staining my cheeks. "I love you too."

Gareki's P.O.V

I haven't seen Mitzi since the fight nor have I seen Bridget. Nai had fallen asleep again so I pick him up and place him in the bed. I place a quick kiss on his forehead and cover him up with the covers. I'm not tired so I just sit on the foot of the bed thinking. Her words ring in my head, 'I hate you get away from us! All you do is hurt us and cause trouble!' Maybe I should just leave. She's right, all I do is cause them pain and trouble. But I can't just leave Nai like that. I love him with all my heart and would do anything for him especially if it makes him happy. Would leaving make him happy? No it wouldn't, but would it keep him safer? Yes it would. My mind is conflicted. What should I do? Eventually I get up to see where Mitzi is. Maybe I can at least talk to her without a major fight. I find her still curled in a ball on the floor with Bridget resting near her. I pick Bridget up and put her in the other room just in case. Then I walk back and gently poke Mitzi's head. She rubs her eyes which are now red and puffy and looks at me before her face twists into a disgusted frown and she glares at me. I reach out my hand and she backs up. I sigh, "Fine but at least accept my apology. I'm sorry for earlier." At this she stands up with defiance clear in her eyes, "I don't care, I want you to leave by tomorrow. I don't care where you go as long as it's away from here." She basically growls at me. "I'm not leaving Nai." "He doesn't love you, he only feels pity for a sorry loser like you. He doesn't care whether you leave or stay." This stings a lot, but I refuse to let this witch see me cry anymore. "Fine I'll leave, but I'm taking Nai with me." She glares at me harder than before. "You wouldn't dare." "Oh really?" I smirk knowing I hit a nerve. "Get out!" She screams. "Fine."

I walk into the room and gently sit on the bed. I caress Nai's cheek to wake him. "Nai wake up please." I coo near his ear softly. He sits up and rubs his eyes tiredly.

Nai's P.O.V

I sit up and rub my eyes at the sound of Gareki's angelic voice. I wrap my arms around his neck and bring him down with me as I lay back down. He chuckles sadly and hugs me back. As he sits back up he puts me in his lap and puts his arms loosely around my torso. I glance at the clock and it reads 2:12, why did he wake me up so early? "I have to leave soon." I laugh thinking he's joking. He rests his head on my shoulder. "Nai I'm serious, Mitzi told me to leave by tomorrow, I can't stay here any longer." I push his head off my shoulder with my cheek and look deeply into his eyes. I find sorrow and grief and I know he's not lying. My own smile fades and I feel my lip start to quiver as I stand on the thin line between full blown bawling my eyes out while screaming and choking back tears. When he looks at the floor the tears start rolling down my cheeks and I start screaming. "No you can't leave me Gareki! I don't care what she says you have to stay! O-or I'll go with you!" He puts and hand on my cheek and I hold it there with my own intertwining our fingers. "It'll be too dangerous for you to come with me Nai." I grasp his shirt with my fists and bury my head in the crook of his neck as the crying gets heavier, racking my body with each gasp and sob.
