Hey guys! This is my first book I'm writing on Wattpad.

I don't know how long other chapters typically are on Wattpad. I really don't. I feel like this is actually really long, but... Bear with me here.

This was originally three separate chapters explaining the backstory, but I feel like that would have been confusing, so I put them into one prologue.

************************************************

I stared out the sliver of window at the bright sky from the comfort of my bed. I was wrapped up tightly in my favourite blanket, and a good book in my lap. My digital clock flashed at me from across my room. 5:45, it read, in big blue numbers. I suppressed a sigh. The moon hadn't even risen yet. It was way too early for me to be awake. On any given school day, I'd usually get up just in time to make it to class before the bell. I pulled back my curtain a little bit more, letting my eyes adjust to the light.

The light from the sol washed out all the detail from the backyard below me, and reflected into my eyes. I automatically squinted from the brightness. As my eyes got used to the bright light, I gazed at my yard below. Shiv was curled up in a ball, leashed to the tree. She was so adorable. We'd gotten her when I was eight. Mum and Dad thought she'd be too scary for me and Andy, but once you got past her fierce appearance Shiv was the sweetest little thing. Her little doggy legs kicked as she dreamed about chasing rabbits, or whatever dogs do dream of.

I let the curtains close, and blissful darkness washed over me once more. Blinking rapidly to clear the sol spots from my eyes, I turned back to my book.

It was quite good, really. It was all about a prince who gets trapped in a tower, instead of a princess, and has to rely on his princess to come rescue him. I'd picked it up at the school library a few days ago, when I was avoiding doing my homework. Much like I was doing now.

My gaze settled on the pile of paper and textbooks sitting on my desk- the homework.

I sighed, pulling the blanket tighter around my shoulders. I hated Math, and don't even get me started on Geological Studies. I don't even know why I took that year eleven class, seeing as I hated it so much in year ten. Oh, yeah, that was it. My best friend Meridith had coerced me into it, all for the sake of catching some cute boy's attention.

Turns out he was gay.

Well, that's what she gets for dragging me along on her crazy boy schemes.

In fact, Meridith was the very reason for my not getting the homework done. She'd called me late last night, crying about her parents' divorce. She'd asked to come over, and how could I say no? We'd stayed up later then we should have, eating ice cream and binge-watching our favourite shows. Of course my homework got forgotten.

She'd gone home just after midnight. She wouldn't have gotten in trouble, her parents would both be in separate bars across the city, and only her older sister would be home. After that, I'd somehow slept incredibly well, and woken up at five-thirty, not tired at all.

I groaned as I realized that I would get in major trouble if it wasn't finished in time for class. Mr. Wilkinson really cracked down on those students who didn't do theirs. I reluctantly put the book down and clambered off the bed. My foot got caught in the purple comforter, and my eyes widened as I realized I was falling. I desperately threw my hands out, grasping for anything. But to no avail. I hit the beige carpet floor with a loud thud. Temporarily having the breath knocked out of me, I lay on the floor, leg stuck in the bed.
