Chapter 2

Three Years Later

The alarm rings for dinner, and all of the kids rush into the cafeteria, pushing and shoving to get the good food before it's gone. There had recently been a food shortage, so only breads, some vegetables, and a few kinds of meat were available. The kids hated this, always wanting to get the best. Danny and Dali were at the back of the line, and Danny was wondering why people were so selfish, and why they never payed attention to what they should know. "What'cha thinkin' 'bout?" Dali asks Danny in a questioning tone, but with a bit of her natural, playful personality. "Nothing, just wondering why they don't acknowledge there are other people, who want things, just like them". "You could think about it this way" Dali adds. "I don't want to think" Danny replies with a monotone voice. Not acknowledging Danny's comment, she continues. "They can't help other people if they don't help themselves first". "But would they ever help anyone after this? I don't think so". Danny says this with an edge in his voice, angry at the kids in front of him.

Danny and Dali get to the front of the line, and get some bread, carrots, and a patty. After getting their food, the go to sit down at their seats in the training room. Two kids peek through a crack in the sliding doors, and snicker to themselves. Danny hears a slight laugh from their direction, and immediately stares at them. The two kids run off, laughing at something, like a secret joke between them. "Did you hear something?" Dali asks, unknowingly as to what just happened. "Some buttheads were staring at us through the door, and then ran off". Danny says this, slightly angrier than in the cafeteria. "You alright, Dan?" "IS BEING THIS ANGRY OKAY?" Danny screams in the training room, extremely loud. "Sorry, I didn't mean to yell, but I kind of did. I didn't want to scare you" Danny continued, apologetically. "It's okay." Dali replies to Danny's apology without any doubt to her words.
