Moonlight shone bright through the window, the sky as clear as glass, with only the stars as its sparkle. A light breeze wafted through the air and into the tiny house, making the warm air spread even further than intended and contaminating the coolness.

Jesse lay in bed, eyes closed gently and covered in sheets. There were bandages on her head, arms, and legs, and some ointment to ease the stinging, but she looked as calm as ever. She could finally get a good night's rest. And to prove the point, light snores came from her mouth, tiredness finally meeting its match.

Lukas brushed a strand of hair out of her face and behind her ear, gently as if not to wake her. He smiled warmly at her before taking a glass of water on the nearby dresser and taking a sip.

He wondered what she was dreaming.

************************

Black. White. Red.

Jesse stood in the middle of nowhere, a breeze making her dark hair flow in the air as she looked around for any sign of movement.

Flicker. A flash of red. Like a glitch.

She turned quickly, but the flicker was gone.

"I know you're there." She said firmly. "Show yourself."

"Jesse, Jesse, Jesse..." A voice tsked at her. "You want me to show myself? But you've already seen me."

A shadow began to form, right in front of her, its shape growing. She took a step back in fear, only to realize she stepped in the same place.

"Who-who are you?" She stammered, gulping. The voice laughed, before glitching out once more.

"Oh, you know who I am. Why, I'm you."

The shadow reached for her, and she broke into a run, right before falling to her knees as a searing pain hit her head.

A scream broke through her mouth as her eyes jolted open, cutting through the darkness to reveal the light.

***********************

A piercing scream brought Lukas' back into focus. Jesse snapped upwards, breathing heavily and clutching her bandaged head.

"Jesse! Are you okay?!" He placed his hands on her shoulders to calm her. She immediately grabbed his arms.

"No-Lukas-we have to go-it can't-it's coming-" she stuttered, fast and uneven, making it difficult for him to understand her.

"Woah-hold on Jesse, slow down. Tell me what's wrong-"

"Lukas." She said firmly, fear evident in her eyes. "It never left."

He looked at her in pure confusion, and then suddenly, there was a pounding at the door, loud and heavy. After a few pounds someone kicked down the door and it fell to the ground making it creak.

Aiden stood in the doorway, covered in cuts and bruises as his breaths turned shaky.

"Jesse! Lukas! PAMA-it's still-" he stopped short, blood starting to stain his clothes in his right chest and leaking through his mouth. A sword had impaled right through his body, and he fell to his knees, just as the sword pulled out.

Black. White. Red.

"NO!" Jesse screamed, getting up to run towards him, but got held back by Lukas.

Something burned in her chest, rage, anger, sadness-regret. Tears were already spilling out of her eyes as she struggled, but still weak from before, couldn't break through.

"Lukas-stop! Let me go-!" She broke down, sobbing. She saw him fall to the ground, clutching his wound in complete agony. His words rang in her head like a bell.

You can do this.

It'll be alright, I swear it.

And when all this is over, I'll buy you some donuts to cheer you up, okay? Just like I promised.

When all this is over...

A person stood behind him-no, a machine. It had a sword in its hand, with Aiden's blood staining the silver. It gave Jesse a deathly grin, its red eyes all too familiar.

"Did you really think all this was over?"
