vice

/vīs/
noun
immoral or wicked behavior.

i grabbed my hair brush and slowly tried to attempt to brush my curly locks. but ultimately failing when i barely get through one stroke. i roll my eyes and sigh, setting down the brush. after applying some lip gloss, i stop to look at myself in the mirror and almost immediately i cringe at the sight of the bags underneath my eyes. and the hairs out of place. and the small clumps of mascara scattered across my eyelashes. and the bra squeezing my chest as it pops my unknown breasts for the world to see. and everything else.

every. little. thing.

this isn't me. and as i hold that thought in me, i hear the doorbell ring.

"come in!" i shout from my bathroom, knowing gabbie will just come in anyways.

"where are you?" i hear her shout.

"bathroom." seconds later she comes bursting in the door with a pair of heels taller than any skyscraper i've seen and a smile. this blonde must be very happy to see me.

"i've missed you," she whispers as she pulls me into a hug. instinctively, i wrap my arms around her and hug her like i'll lose her. i've missed her too. so much.

"same here, gobbie." i say and i smile. after a while we both pull away and she squeals while clapping her hand.

"oh my, god!" she shouts. "look at you!" i roll my eyes and giggle.

"yes," i say. "i look incredible." and then i flip my hair and strut my stuff out the bathroom door. the sounds of her loud laughs filters in my brain and i giggle along.

"yes. yes you do." she says. "like damn, my baby over here lookin' like a full course meal." she says and i laugh harder.

"meanwhile i'm over here lookin' like a burnt piece of toast." she says.

"hey!" i shout. "you know some people like burnt toast." she rolls her eyes and places her hands on her hips.

"only old people like burnt toast."

"exactly," i say. "that means old people like you." she gasps and pushes my shoulder with a laugh.

"rude." she says and we both walk out the door while laughing.

15 minuets later and we make it to this party and almost immediately i hear the thump of blaring music shaking the streets just as we pull into the neighborhood. cars pack the sidewalks and we're forced to walk the first couple houses down.

"this," i say as i get out of the uber. "this is why i hate parties."

"liza c'mon." she says. "at least try to have a good time." i roll my eyes and nod. we eventually make it to the house and the second we walk inside the aroma of alcohol and cigarettes filter through my nostrils as the drunken idiots that surround me chug a bottle of whiskey and coke. i look to my left and see nothing but a strangers silhouette. perhaps gabbie left to go shove her tongue down some guys throat.

i sit at the kitchen bar and fiddle with my phone, turning it upside down as i rest my hand underneath my chin while sighing every so often.

"hey," a voice behind me whispers. "how are you?"

i look behind me and a large man in a grey hoddie smiles. his face has a slight stubble on it, but it's enough of extenuate his jawline. his blue eyes pop out like the sun. it was blinding almost and it made my body shake. his dark brown hair was very fine, but he surely had a lot of it. i softly give him a smile before quickly scooting myself over so he could sit beside me.
