Addie's POV
"What's the matter, Robins, cat got your tongue?" Rogers asked in mock concern, biting into an apple he conjured from midair.
I simply stared at him, unable to comprehend. "What the hell are you doing here?"
"Nice to see you too," he replied, taking another bite of his apple and purposefully chewed with his mouth open. "Who knew you had it in you to escape and break the Wizarding Law? You are so full of surprises, Robins."
"What are you doing here?" I asked, my voice surprisingly cold and indifferent, but my hand strayed closer to the wand in my pocket, "I took down Grindelwald as we agreed, so you should have done both of us a favor and stayed the hell out of my life, Davies."
"I'm hurt," He feigned sorrow, placing his hand above his heart, "I thought you missed me—" he sprayed a bit of the apple juice on my robes, before flicking it away with his hand. "Ah, wait—" he held up his hand, "there is some on your collar—"
I grabbed his wrist, about to twist it in the other direction but he had already seen the ring, the Horcrux. He gave a rueful laugh before wrenching his hand from my grip. "So—" he smirked, "he gave you his Horcrux, how sweet, giving a part of his soul to you, Robins. Tell me, how was it to warm the bed of a cold blooded murderer?"
"I did no such thing," I said flatly, "And if you want to find a true whore, Davies, you need only to look at yourself."
He laughed at my response, clapping his hands in mock amusement. "Ah, I missed your little quips and jokes, Robins—"
"Who said I was joking?"
He chose to ignore me as he continued, "But you are right, Robins, you helped vanquish the Dark Lord Grindelwald and reunited me with my long lost love, that I give you credit for. But in your foolishness, you let another dark force arise and that, I hold you accountable for."
"What are you talking about?" I asked, my heart pounding.
He studied me, those blue eyes never leaving me for an instant. They seared with accusation. "Don't play stupid, Robins," he said, "you know exactly who I am talking about. You should have killed him the moment you met him."
"What are you—"
Rogers stepped closer, his eyes darkened with hatred, all of the mirth draining from his eyes. "Stop playing innocent, you had every opportunity to kill him—from the hospital, where you had his wand, and even when he took you to Malfoy Mansion. You were a damned fool to not use the Killing Curse then and there."
"I am not a murderer," I stated, my voice icy, "more importantly, I am not Grindelwald, I am nothing like my father."
"Could have fooled me."
I glared into his eyes, feeling magic tense at my fingertips. Anger coursed through me. "And there it is," Rogers said softly, "those hate filled eyes, the veins pumping with adrenaline and loathing— tell me, do you feel so holy now, Robins? I bet Grindelwald looked the same way when he murdered all of those children, all of those families, all of those—"
I moved too quickly for him. The tip of the wand pointed underneath his chin, the end pulsing with red energy. "One more word, one more word from you, Davies—" I snarled, "and I will not hesitate to—"
"To what? Kill me?" He sneered, "go right ahead, after all, the world is not any place I want to live in when Tom takes over."
"He won't," the words moved off my tongue smoothly.
Rogers looked at me. "Liar," he mouthed silently. He looked up, his eyes dark, "Will you still love him, Robins, even if I tell you what he has done? Who he has killed?"
I stood still, silent, cold as a statue. I was afraid, afraid to hear, afraid to listen to what he had to say. I dreaded the truth. "That's what I thought," he said, as I lowered my wand arm. He rearranged his coat collar, turning it upwards. He didn't even look at me. "Think about it, Robins," he said, "you are just as responsible as he is, if not, more. All those deaths, all those broken families, all of those orphaned children seeking love in this cruel world, it's all of you fault. I hope you die from your guilt."
He Apparated, his form disappearing into the darkness before I saw what he had left on the ground. A golden ring.
My eyes widened, as I remembered. "Accio—" I whispered as the ring shot into my hand. I opened my palm. A plain, gold ring to fit on my index finger, the inside carved with a bird. The ring I used to contact the Supreme Leader back in Hogwarts.
My blood chilled immediately. A message, a symbol.
It was a call for another betrayal.
