Emily took a few steps closer since no one else bothered to even walk up to him. There he was, he looked alive but he wasn't. Of course that's the job of well whoever puts makeup on and dresses the deceased.
The sad part of the way he looked was... Justin looked the same way he did the night of the dance, the first night he kissed her. suddenly she began to get a flash back...
Justin kissing her and the way she was shocked, then later the night of the dance when she kissed him and he told her he loved her.
Their forever and always was gone and she would never see him smile again, and she would never see those beautiful eyes again. And his last words to her had been 'i love you' and at her last words to him: 'I love you too' he smiled. He wore the same tux as the night of the dance.
She heard someone approaching "I'm sorry," Jackie said with her hand on Emily's shoulder
"it was the only one that fit him"
"It's okay I understand"
Emily told her with her voice cracking from the tears she held back. All she could think about was he didn't look the way he did in the car that night she lost him. No, not at all.
That night he looked about as dead as you can look. he looked like he wasn't even there, he looked miserable and not even willing to try and fight death. Maybe that's why he had said his goodbye, he knew his forever was over. And Emily's always didn't last.
So there they were the last time together, a girl with a ponytail and her glasses with a tear going down her cheek wearing a black dress with a left prosthetic leg. Standing before a box containing a boy whose life was long gone, lying there without a smile on and his eyes never to be seen again, wearing a tux that held the strongest memories.
She brushed his cheek and leaned foreword to kiss his forehead just as he always did to her.
"Life may not be perfect, it never is but if you had a boy who promised you his forever by your side...thats about as perfect as it'll ever be. And ever was.." she whispered to herself as she slowly left behind the boy she loved behind her as she walked away.
The whole speech thing was very depressing, except the fathers prayer. His was just boring, Emily didn't really pay attention to his, I mean he's only there cause he's getting paid. Not because he ever cared for him, no he never cared. Justin's mom couldn't finish her speech cause she ran off the post and into the bathroom in tears, Justin's dad tried to hold his serious face he always had but he managed to let some tears escape. it's kinda heart breaking when you see a grown big tough man cry. During every speech Emily sat there looking almost as lifeless as Justin but listening to some of the speeches some tears would roll down her expressionless face.
It was Emily's turn, she stood up and limped around the rows of people to reach the post, climbing up the three steps she took a quick glance at Justin. Something was in the pocket by his chest, but she turned back to the crowd of people. Emily didn't know when but Jackie had joined them again for Emily's speech.
"I-I may have not known Justin as long as you all did but in the short amount of t-time we spend together i learned this. Justin may not be the best person in the world or have been the most perfect one alive but,.. he sure as heck was and always will be the best person you known, and the most perfect," she snuffled as a tear rolled down her cheek ,
"now i know you are all thinking I should've been the one who died that night...i wish I was. because Justin deserved to continue his life not me, not me...he meant so much to me,
I loved him..." she was now looking at him with a smile as she gasped for air from all the tears
"he made everyday better and he could make me smile no matter what, he was just that kind of person. and even now looking at him I can still imagine that smile he shinned that light up the whole room. I would've loved to spend the rest of my forever with him, I wish I could...but that day he promised me that he would spend the rest of his forever with me...he kept his promise I just wish his forever was longer. I just have one question...Why him?..Why now?.." and with that, she left.
She went to the bathroom after the next speech and cried her heart out, once again covering her ears. It hurt, imagine the worst headache, that's what she felt. Imagine not being able to breathe, oh no that wouldn't cut it, it felt like someone would hold her heart in their hands and twist it to see how many times they could twist it and even after they knew they reached the limit. They would just keep on going.
They were outside now, at the graveyard. Emily's heart still hurting and her eyes still burning from the tears. This was when they would lower him into the ground to rot and never be seen again. The sky was grey, full of heavy clouds of rain. The wind was blowing and Emily's cheeks felt cold against the wind. everything was quiet as everyone stayed quiet during the small moment of silence. No one needed to ask Emily not to say a word, she already didn't want to talk.
The priest or father was giving his last prayer before he would lower him into the ground, something about painting in heaven and he would stay in our hearts and whatever, Emily still didn't care for his words. When he finished Everyone was in tears, Emily just looked at them and thought: 'are you seriously crying over his words? he never knew Justin.' but she also knew it hurt them almost as much as it hurt emily. it's not that Emily wasn't sad, she was numb... like she couldn't move cause of the shock. But at other moments she hated reality, reality was her worst enemy.
So there they were, everyone threw a flower in as they lowered the box containing the one thing Emily cared for most. Emily was the last to throw a flower in and when she did there was one thought as she looked at the box.
Justin's smile.
Finally Emily broke into tears, she fell to her knees and began to cry. All that she cared and loved for most in the world was gone...
After about 10 minutes she stood to her feet, and took one last glance at the box containing a boy, not just any boy but a boy who knew what life was worth and knew how to enjoy every moment and a boy Emily loved.
She whispered her last words just as she did that night of the accident...
"I love you Justin Slovene..." a tear trickled down her face at the words.
She turned away hoping not to break down into tears again, she heard a voice in her head 'I think I love you?..."
It was Justin's.
Emily smiled and it began to rain and she thought to herself.
'I'm glad Justin and me could share his forever together. And now...he is living upon the stars, like he dreamed he would... and I love him I always will. I will never forget those moments together and that smile and those beautiful green eyes or that personality.'
