Chapter 13

Execution. Catalina strolled over to her father while Mace struggled to hold himself up in the chair, practically falling out. It was as if he were drugged.

Tears burned at Catalina's eyes, wanting so badly to fall. She lifted her gown up a bit as she kneeled down to her father who was slumped over up against the wall. He was still clutching his chest, and his face held an expression of unbearable pain.

Camillo eyed his daughter with tears threatening to fall. He struggled to breathe as he attempted to speak. "¿Por qué? ¿Por qué, mi amor?" he asked in and airy tone. Why? Why, my love?

Catalina let the tears fall and gently used one of her hands to place against her father's face. "Lo siento, papá. Pero tú me hiciste hacerlo."  She said, sincerely. I'm sorry, daddy. But you made me do it. She'd been living in her father's shadow, in his name for entirely too long. She wanted to be free; she wanted to live her own life, her own way. She was tired of being Daddy's little girl... she was a grown woman now.

"Tú me traicionaste ... por qué?" Camillo managed to say. You betray me... why?

Catalina looked away in guilt. She didn't want her father to die, she needed him but she was doing this for her own good. "Shhhh, papá, sólo respira." She said. Shhhh, daddy, just breathe.

Camillo closed his eyes, and Catalina leaned in and gently kissed him on his cheek. She got up and turned away from him. She saw Mace struggling to gather himself, his head was moving all over the place like a bobble head. He was out of it. Again, she took her time helping him up and getting him steadily on his feet. He dragged them and tripped over them as the two started towards the steps.

When they reached them, Catalina looked at her father once more; he was clutching his chest for dear life. "Te quiero, papá." She said, softly before climbing up the stairs. I love you, daddy.

Getting Mace up the stairs was difficult as she practically had to carry him. When they reached the third step, the freezer entrance/exit opened. Catalina stood on the step, breathing hard, trying to catch her breath. She went over in her head how she was going to get out of the restaurant without causing too much attention. She would have to use the back entrance.

When she exited the secret dungeon, she stood there for a moment before finally guiding Mace through the kitchen. The cooks in the kitchen shot her a few looks but she could care less. What were they going to do, tell her father?

They bumped into a few people in the process of exiting the kitchen, but still, they kept it pushing. When they exited the kitchen, Catalina turned the corner, avoiding the crowd of people, and walked down a long hallway until she reached the back exit. She breathed a sigh of relief once she pushed it open.

Waiting in the parking lot of Palacio was Carti, Tay, and Shy who insisted on coming. Carti let her but he needed someone to stay with Milyon so Capo did.

"There she go." Tay said. They had been waiting patiently for Catalina to exit for over forty minutes. The plan was that Carti come to the Palacio, pull into the parking lot as if he were a guest, and simply wait for Catalina to exit the building. He knew that they couldn't go in because they would stand out in the crowd of very light brown tinted faces. But, if Catalina hadn't come out in an hour, they would be going in.

Catalina had told them before she left the states that the party started at 12 p.m. and she would arrive at 12:30 p.m. And between 12:30 and 1 o'clock, she would take an opportunity to get Mace. If she hadn't come out by 1:20 p.m. they would have to take other precautions. Everything that they'd plan was done on chance, they weren't sure if Mace would actually be here but they took a chance, they weren't even sure if Catalina was playing them or not but they took a chance.
