Chapter 14

Author's Note: I know this chapter was long awaited.  It's pretty long so I didn't get to edit it much, so you may catch a few errors. But I hope you enjoy!

Two days later, Milyon had mustered up enough strength and energy to try and find a casket for Shy’s funeral. She and Carti were looking on an online site where an ivory white steel casket caught her eye but she was saddened every time she tried imagining her friend lying in one.

Milyon had an urge to urinate. “Be back. Gotta go pee…” she said to Carti.

Carti furrowed his eyebrows. “Damn… again?” he asked, she’d been going to pee back to back for hours and hours. Milyon flipped him off and got up and speed walked to the adjoined bathroom in Carti’s bedroom. She pushed open the bathroom door and turned on the light. She pulled down navy blue and white striped short shorts, and squatted over the toilet seat, she hadn’t even closed the door.

Just as she was flushing the toilet, a pain shot up her lower back. It was excruciating and sharp. She gripped the sink for support. She moaned out in pain. “Oh, my God… ughhh!” she groaned through gritted teeth, trying not to scream out.

Carti was on it; he stood to his feet, and jogged to the bathroom. When he saw Milyon clutching the bathroom counter, he knew something was wrong. “You good, ma?” he asked, knowing the answer.

Milyon shook her head; her eyes closed, and mouth tight. “I think I need to go to the hospital.” Milyon said. She was worried. She had never had this kind of pain before and she was almost sure that it was a contraction. Her doctor told her that she may even experience Braxton Hicks, which were false contractions. He explained a lot of things to her during their last appointment which was weeks ago. Milyon didn’t know if the contractions were real or not, and she didn’t want to chance it.

Carti tried calming her. “You think you going into labor?” he asked, confused. She knew he hadn’t paid much attention to the doctor when he was explaining things to them. She shook her head in annoyance.

“I don’t know, Carti. But this shit hurts!” she said, feeling the pain subside as she inhaled and exhaled in a meditating way.

“Yo, simmer down.” he said. He wasn’t trying to be mean because he knew she was hormonal but he was always letting her pass.

Milyon shot him a look. “Okay but please… just… don’t… touch me.” She said. She exhaled deeply before slowly lifting away from the counter.

She waited for a moment before moving, clutching her round belly. “I think it stopped…” she said. She walked around Carti and over to the bed, she didn’t want to be standing if it happened again. She slowly crawled into the bed, lying comfortably on her back. She closed her eyes.

Carti was confused as hell. He checked on her once more before leaving the room to get her something to drink.

Ten minutes later, she had another. This time… they decided to go to the hospital. She wondered why her water hadn’t broken if she was going into labor. She knew the answer but her mind was racing a million thoughts a second so she couldn’t think straight. She didn’t even care about her water bag breaking anymore; she just needed to get to the hospital.

Carti helped her to the car. They hadn’t packed any bags, they were going to do it this month but so much had happened within the past few days that it’d slipped their minds.

When they reached the hospital, Carti found a good parking space and they went inside the building. They boarded the elevator and headed to level four: the maternity ward.
