4:00 am- Every single morning it's the same process. The wind chases his legs as he swings his feet out of the bed * Boom* they hit the ground shaking the house as if an earthquake that was too scared to develop had hit our house. The light from the kitchen caught my hazel eye as I silently watched as my dad grabbed his bag and a fruit, his favorite fruit, a bowl of strawberries. And all of a sudden my heart picked up my feet one by one *Stomp *Stomp they went, as they now stood in front of my dad and with my heart still directing me I held my arms out to give him a big hug. My big curly hair black hair filled his arms. The warmness of his blue eyes and the sweetness of his pale smile looked down at me
"I Love always, Sweetie." He said.
" I love you to the end, Dad." I said. "Are you working late tonight. I'm making apple pie for dinner. You're favorite..."
"I'm sorry, I can't... You know how it is attendance at work is very demanding." He struggled to smile, but I understood.
"Yeah...No... it was stupid of me to ask..." I said.
My Father is a scientist he works for the government to create weapons. I'm not sure what the weapons are for but it's scary to think that they are needed. Sometimes I see him up at late hours drawing and writing. I use to sit and wait for him to come out of is office that he built in our house. He'd say in a tired voice, which took all of him to muster up enough energy to bash his vocal chords together to say, "Something for work". It's just me and him. It wasn't always like this, 10 years ago the light was still in his eyes, you could see the pink flush in his face as we would run around our house playing
superheroes. "I got you" he'd say as I would run around trying to get out of his grip. His sandy hair now gray from the troubles of life. As his tall thin frame moved past me to the door I smelled the sweet fragrance of slightly sour strawberries. My head turned as my Father walked out of the door. Little did I know this would be the last time I saw him alive.
5:00 am- The Foggy gloom had not yet settled on the earth and the trees sang hums of distress. *Dom *Dom an endless rhythm as my Father Integrated with the big long walls of his science lab. *Snap as the metal from the key violently scratches the key lock. As his feet stomp *Dom *Dom on the smooth floor he had his briefcase, fruit and jacket crowding his hands and then to add on to his troubles his phone in his left pocket sounded off *Buzz *Buzz. He walked into his office and sat in his chair, the breath moved from his mouth and made a big sigh. On the table across from him sat a human-like figure under a blanket. His thumb puts pressure on the green answer button. His breath moved from his mouth one last time.
"Hello, this is Ode" My father whispered.
"This is base 5368, We just got word that you and your family are terminated. You are scheduled for 8 am you're daughter 5:30 am Thank you for your service... " He said with a voice so deep it sounded like a song.
The wind moved out of the way as my Dad's hand opens and phone drops to the ground.
Pale, even more than usual. Ghostly, this is what my Father looked like. It was only 5 am, his last 5 am. He slowly stood up and walked over to the human figure propped on a table nearby. He flung the white blanket from over it and there it was. The thing my father had been working on relentlessly me... Five years ago my dad was reading to me. While I sat on my dad's lap the doorbell rang. Although I couldn't make out who was there my dad got a paper that I later realized was an application approval to work for the government. In that moment my dad became a different person. Quit, Still, sad. When my dad took the job at the government he knew there would come a time when he & I would be terminated, Erased, gone, Not alive in this natural world. What would the government do if someone decided to spill their secrets? That's why there could be no "Family" left over. My Mom knew this and she left because she couldn't bare to watch this happen to the family she loved and she wouldn't be affected because she was not related to my Father by blood. I knew about the termination but I didn't know about the rebirth by dad had for me.
6:00 am- My dad's feet pressed into the ground as he ran to his car with nothing but his keys. He drove and drove until he pulled into the driveway, then he ran into the house hoping with whatever hope he thought would change things. There I was, a body, a body without a soul. Non-living vessel. Tears, so many tears, they fell on my forehead as my Father looked down at me. "I'm so sorry." After a long silence, he cried in a quiet whiny voice "Just Something for work", He exclaimed as the tears were starting to swelter up again.
Eternal Sleep,
I was living in eternal sleep
Gone, I was.
7:00 am- My Father took me back to his lab, and even though he had been preparing for this moment for years he could never be prepared enough. It was simple, take the heart from my body put it into the robot, the robot will pump real blood through my new body which will then activate my brain, then it will carry all of my prior memories, even the last moments.
And so it was done.
8:00 am- My brain had been activated although I had not woken up yet. My Father went into another room and sat in his chair to wait for his demise. He didn't want the government's hits man to come across me if I had woken up. Black Cars scurried into the parking lots, Moving the air from his mouth my Father made a sigh. It was a "Sigh" of Peace. As the men in black jackets stomped closer to him he put a warm, sweet smile on his face the same one he had that morning when I wrapped my arms around him. They could see him from down the hall since the room was the first room in plain sight. They entered. Five men crowded around my father.
"We just want to do our jobs and go, no hassle." They said.
"Don't do it too well you might end up like me!" My Father said as he slightly laughed.
One of the five men grabbed his arm and injected him with the "unknown" and slowly his eyes faded away into eternal sleep.
And his last words he formed.
"I love always, Sweetie!" He said.
Gone, He was.
Suddenly my eyes opened.
For most 8:00 am is the start of the day.
For me, it's the start of a new life.
