A little shooting star flew across the sky, lighting up the night for a second. It was just a glimpse, a transient phenomenon, which disappeared as soon as it came into sight.
It wasn't strange to see a shooting star at this time of the year. Usually, there were tons and tons of little sparkles rushing through the air, as they burned up in the atmospherere.
And for each one, people made a wish.
It was different for everybody. There were people who only asked for something little, something to make their day, something to cheer them up. But sometimes, it was something more, something much bigger.
A single father from Paris wished to see his wife again, to get some help raising their kids. A little girl in Colorado wanted her mom to not have cancer anymore. A teenager rooting for their friends to pass their exams. Many from different countries wished to win the lottery, others hoped to meet their significant other soon.
And sometimes, their wish came true. Sometimes, out of the millions, someone in the world was lucky enough to see their dream become true. It could be anything, it didn't matter, because they were happy to see their hopes being fulfilled.
Little did they know that it had nothing to do with luck.
