Chapter 4
"Welcome to the U.S.S. Enterprise, Fallon," said Uncle Pavel as we walked on.
"It's amazing," I said, looking around at the bustling foreigners and humans, trying to secure everything in its place to ensure we had everything. The Enterprise itself was...amazing. I couldn't think of another word for it.
Everyone from this round of crew coming on board was handed a colored Star Fleet shirt according to their position. I receive a blue one, for my medical and scientific knowledge.
"Ms. Kirk," I looked up and saw that it was Uncle Bones, sorry, Dr. McCoy, addressing me. "I'm going to show you around while the captain and first officer double-check everything."
I nodded and followed him around, being told where was forbidden and why, and where I could go and where I should stay out of because of thus and so reason. I was also shown my room, a double that I'd be sharing with Dad.
A communicator was given to me, and Dr. McCoy made sure I knew exactly how to use it before I was allowed to put it away.
"I'm not a child, Doctor. I think I can figure out not to go in somewhere marked 'Danger'." He shrugged.
"Just covering the basics. Now, you need an antibiotic shot. The captain hates this and tries to avoid it each time."
Laughing, I imagined it. I knew that Dad would fight it.
The shot didn't hurt too bad, just like a pinch. "May I?" I asked. He shrugged.
"Go for it. You've probably got a better shot than me."
Hiding the needle behind my back, I was given instructions on exactly where to put it and how far in to go. It seemed simple enough.
"Anyone that doesn't have a job on the bridge has to ask permission to come in," he told me, "so he's expecting me. You, however, can go right in."
"I'll give it back once I'm done," I promised before turning the last corner and walking in. Dad, excuse me, Captain Kirk, was sitting in the captain's chair with his head down a touch, looking at Uncle-Mr. Sulu. Man, this titles thing is harder than I thought it would be.
I gingerly placed it and he didn't notice, although his eyes had flickered to me as I entered. Quickly I pricked him and pushed the medicine in, making him flinch and spin around. "Fallon!"
"Sorry!" I chirped as I left to hand the needle back to Dr. McCoy. "Done."
"Nice job, Ms. Kirk."
I blushed a bit, only having been addressed as an actual adult the once over intercom. "Thank you."
Over the intercom I heard Mr. Sulu informing us that we were about to come out of warp.
"I'm going to the bridge to observe," I said.
He nodded and we parted ways. Captain Kirk looked at me as I came in. "Here to stab me again?" he asked.
"No, that was a one-time thing."
"Good," he rubbed the back of his neck. I chuckled and sat next to Spock, who was focused on a screen that I knew I probably wouldn't understand.
"Captain," said Spock suddenly, "I have detected a nearby Klingon warship. It is headed directly for us. Have we stopped in Klingon air space?"
"Mr. Sulu, where are we?"
I looked over and saw Sulu already messing with the things in front of him. "We are in Klingon space, but it isn't something I could exactly prohibit. Warp cut out on us, I only had enough time to warn the crew."
