Chapter 6
The first thing I noticed upon arrival was the startling lack of Klingon guards that were in the dark room with us. My hand seized up and I felt Spock grab it. "Take this," he whispered, as the guard had his back to us and didn't yet realize we were here.
Feeling a piece of metal hit my hand, I looked down and saw a phaser. It was set to stun, which made me relax. I could get out of here without seriously hurting anyone.
Spock had another-did he plan this? Surely not, my father never would have agreed to put me in this position of possible death. Perhaps he was just prepared in case of emergency.
After shooting the two guards, we inched our way out of the room. "What are we supposed to be doing?" I asked. Why not just stay there and wait for the Enterprise to beam us back?
"Taking out their weapons bay," replied Spock quietly. I nodded. Maybe this had been planned after all. My eyes grew wide. This was the plan, until I was targeted. Spock was meant to come here with someone else, but he saw the chance and took it. For that I was glad.
I didn't ask how we were meant to do this, but I knew he had a plan. You don't just show up on the enemy ship without a plan.
The hall we passed intersected with another and, with my amazing luck, Klingons were passing the intersection at the exact same time as us and looked over at us. Immediately they were down, though not without alerting the rest of this level that we were here.
Spock waited a few seconds. I knew better than to question his actions, so waited with him. Another few minutes passed, and while I could hear Klingons all around us, we weren't found. Then just as we were about to be caught, he shot into action and stunned the three Klingons nearest to us.
I raced after my companion in hopes that we wouldn't be caught. Making our way to the weapons bay was difficult, and I was glad I'd studied Klingons before. The information was coming in handy. I knew what they were saying, how far away they were, and how long it would take for them to reach us only moments after Spock. My mind didn't work as fast as his.
Finally making it to the weapons bay, he and I began stunning every Klingon in sight. I cried out in pain when a foot hit the back of my elbow and sent my phaser flying across the floor. Thanking my lucky stars I'd had hand-to-hand combat training, I spun around with a bycicle kick and knocked the Klingon's gun from his hand. My defensive position could last only so long, I knew, as bruises began appearing across my arms. So I threw a punch and knocked him back a few steps. With a quick sweep I had him off his feet and had kicked his head like a soccer ball.
I felt a sharp pain in my side just as the Klingon fell unconscious and tumbled to the ground. I covered it, hoping that it would be less painful. Feeling my hand getting wet, I couldn't sit up to see what had happened. I just had to wait.
Spock noticed but finished our job before paying me any attention. He cut every cord, disabled every gun, and called the Enterprise to let them know we had finished.
He said we, he actually meant I.
"Fallon, how were you injured?"
"I-I'm not sure."
I moved my hands from the stinging pain and saw blood seeping into the royal blue shirt. "It probably looks worse than it is," I said, laying my head back. I began getting tunnel vision and bit my lip. "Spock, are we spinning?" I felt dizzy all of a sudden, and yellow lights danced above me.
"Careful, Fallon," he cautioned me. I closed my eyes and felt a hand on my face, trying to keep me awake.
Instantly it was brighter, and I opened my eyes to see that we were in a white room. "We need Dr. McCoy," said Spock, but it was fading. The sound wasn't as loud as it should have been and the room, although recognizable, was still spinning and I couldn't tell where I was.
