Ryan flipped the fragile page of the ancient book carefully. The last thing he wanted to do was to ruin the page and have Joseph shouting at him for destroying the only book that could help them killing the vampire. He skimmed through the pages, it was written in Latin, with some symbols that to him it seemed like a tree with 4 branches.
“Do you get anything?” Joseph sudden appearance almost made him fell down from his chair.
“N—No. I’m still reading it.” Ryan stammered.
Joseph groaned, Ethan quickly tapped his shoulder trying to calm him.”I told you he doesn’t understand Latin.” Joseph wanted to say something, but Ethan quickly cut him.”I will just explain it to him.”
“Ugh. Just make it fast.” Joseph rolled his eyes and walked toward the empty seat in front of Ryan.
“The book is explaining about vampire history.” Ethan began.”Vampires are the descendant of the witches.”
Ryan closed the book in front of him carefully; he tried as much as possible to avoid Joseph’s sight.
“Do you know about Salem Witch Trial?” Ethan asked him.
Ryan nodded.”It’s about a series of hearings and prosecution of people accused of witchcraft.”
“Well, it’s not people accused of.” Joseph abruptly cut him.”They killed the actually witches, by burning them alive.”
“Yes. Witchcraft was used for farming and agriculture. It was said that the peasants were the witches. But then men and women in Salem believed that all the misfortunes were attributed to the work of the devil, when things like infant death and crop failures, the supernatural was blamed. The idea of white magic transformed into dark magic and became associated with demons and evil spirits.” Ethan explained.
“They was right about one point, there’s a dark magic.” Joseph added.
“But how could the witches and vampires connect?” Ryan asked, he looked more confuse than earlier.
“They started to find all the witches and killed them. Only few were lucky enough to escape from Salem. They stayed hidden for almost twenty years. The rest died tragically. But there was one family, Reischer. Denzel Reischer was the patriarch. Since he couldn’t let his whole family die. He finally decided to follow the dark magic. With the essence of the Hawthorn tree and the blood of a werewolf he began the ritual to make them Immortal.” Ethan said and seated himself between Joseph and Ryan.
“Denzel was the last one to be executed. He watched his entire were burned alive, and like he planned, they all turned into ashes, so no one would doubt their death. He paid off one of the guards to let him into the execution area. There, he stabbed himself, soon as his blood dropped into the ashes; his entire family regenerated, as a new creature, the vampires.”
“They are known to be the original vampires, from them, the other vampires were created.” Joseph added. “But their existence is unknown. Reishcer was a big family, there were about 15 family members, and Denzel changed all of them to vampires, except himself. They are now living separately, the changed their last name too. “
Ryan nodded, he finally understood. “I got it now. So how do we identify and kill them?” he asked.”I mean they are millions of myths about vampires, which one is true, which one is not? Like sun, does it really kill them?”
“No, it’s the myth. They already dead, the sun didn’t do anything to them. The truth is vampires wouldn’t have any shadow under the sun, whereas, they are vulnerable in full moon.” Joseph answered him, he looked a little bit calmer that earlier.
“Actually, most of the myths are true, just the method is wrong.” Ethan added.”Garlic, the essence of garlic can burn their skin. It’s best the way to identify a vampire. “
“Invitation, they only can’t enter a witch house without being invited in.” Joseph continued.”A stake made from Hawthorn’s wood and dead man’s blood can paralyze them.”
“So that means werewolf’s bite can kill them is also a myth? Then how do we kill them?” Ryan frowned.
Ethan leaned to his seat and began to explain. “Their true enemy is a witch, not a werewolf. There are four ways to kill a vampire. A certain spell from a powerful witch, beheading, heart extraction, and the last is the werewolf’s blood. If they have werewolf’s blood in their system, they could die instantly. But getting a werewolf’s blood is not that easy. It must from a week old werewolf. All we all know how unstable a young werewolf is.”
“How do we know a vampire instantly?” Ryan voiced again.
“It’s quiet hard. Vampires are just like other humans. Only newborn vampires will have a really pale skin, but soon as they reached a month, their skin color will turn into normal one. Only an expert vampire hunter could recognize a vampire instantly. ” Ethan answered. He moved his sight from Ryan to Joseph.” Question is, how do we find him?”
“This is a small town.” Joseph said and stood up from his chair.”We will meet him again.” He said and took his doctor’s coat and walked toward the door.”Ryan, keep your eyes open, whenever and wherever you see him again, tell me.”
