Scary Thunder; Big Balls

The thunderstorm woke me up about an hour ago and has been going strong ever since. Flashes of lightning and booming thunder that shake the entire old building awake.

I fill up the kettle on the stove with water and light the flame for a cup of tea to hold me over until the storm passes, which will hopefully be soon considering I have to work tomorrow.

Harry knocks on my door, the same pattern of knocks, even though it's midnight and thunderstorming.

He gently opens the door and peaks his head in, seeing the light on and me in the kitchen, then steps fully inside.

"Hi, Harry."

"Hi, bird. You woke up too?"

I smile at the fact that he called me bird, my heart beating a bit too fast to call healthy, and I nod.

"I thought you might be scared so I decided to come check on you, you know, just in case." He says.

"I'm not scared, I just can't sleep with all the noise." I reply with a shrug.

I've never been afraid of thunderstorms. As far back as I can remember, I never have been. Even when I was 7 years old and alone in my new, big bedroom on the top floor of my house, I was never scared of a little storm. I was always a very light sleeper, though. I'd wake up if someone simply rolled over in bed next to me, that was something I never enjoyed.

A sad, maybe discouraged look, flashes across his face at my answer. "Oh . . . I can still stay here if you want, though. Like, we can cuddle or something if that will help you get back to sleep."

I don't believe his little façade for one second. Baby giraffe isn't very good at lying.

"Are you scared, Harry?"

He blows out a breathy laugh, "I am a strong, punk, hard-core man. I don't get scared of little storms."

But to prove my point, thunder booms and lighting strikes, illuminating the whole room, and Harry jumps with a squeal.

"I am a strong, punk, hard-core man who's a little bit afraid of storms."

I just laugh, "You can stay the night with me if you want."

"Yes, please. Can you also make me a cuppa?" He gives me his best pout and puppy-dog eyes and I coo at him.

"Already on it."

I get two mugs out, two tea bags of peppermint tea, and the steaming kettle off the burner and pour us two nice, steaming cups.

"Thank you, I'm so glad you moved in here, otherwise I'd be all alone and I hate being alone when it's storming."

"No problem. You're nice company."

I smile at him, his hair is the messiest I've ever seen it before, just completely tousled and thrown everywhere, random curls poking out in different directions and an unbelievable frizziness to it. It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

I set down a couple blankets and a pillow on my couch for Harry, even setting down the tv remote on the table next to it, just in case he can't sleep and gets bored.

"Here you are, Harry. I'll see you in the morning."

He looks disappointed but doesn't say anything so I shake it off. What was he expecting, a five star hotel stay? Nevertheless, I want to kiss the frown off his face.

"Goodnight." I murmur and then make my way to my bedroom, leaving the door open just in case.

I don't even make it into bed before he's crawling in with me.

"Can I sleep next to you? Like, I'm not scared or anything, but I just kinda want to sleep with someone and I kinda want that someone to be you. And we can like cuddle and stuff."

I giggle and pull the covers over him, not even giving it a second thought, and finding it quite adorable that he's lying about being scared. "Sure, Har."

He pulls me into his chest, an insane amount of body heat radiating off of him and he smiles down at me,

"You're so beautiful."

I curl further into his body and his bare feet wrap between my legs. He lays his head on top of mine, squishing his cheek against my forehead.

"And so, so cuddly."

Thunder booms and he jumps, so I take advantage of his vulnerable state, pulling his head to my chest and kissing it. My heart beats so fucking loud I swear he can hear it.

Shit.

I don't think my balls could get any bigger tonight.
