Emerson; Fucking Gorgeous

Exactly two hours after baby Emerson (a girl, just like Eleanor thought) was born, Harry and I woke up to a phone call from Louis. He was sobbing hysterically, laughing wetly as Harry called him a new daddy!, and so, so happy.

We got down to the hospital as soon as possible, dying to see this little baby they were talking about.

Luckily for me, it was a bright and early 6AM, so I had plenty of time until I had to go to work. Harry on the other hand, wasn't used to being up this early and had fallen asleep a couple times on the drive here, but once we got into the hospital room, he was wide awake.

There were only a few others in the warm and white room and no trace of the screaming, crying, bloody (literally) mess that had probably taken place here only two hours prior. Everything was clean, quiet and cozy as Eleanor dipped her arms cradling the tiny baby towards us, and Harry pushed the blanket away from her little face.

She was gorgeous, of course. Fresh into the world, blue eyes open and curious. She immediately had Harry swooning over her as he picked her up and rocked her, bouncing around the room, nearly crying tears of joy.

When I finally got my turn and the baby was out of Harry's hands, he immediately turned to Louis, jumping onto him in a hug. They both had red eyes from all the emotions.

As I tucked Emerson into the crook of my arm, I glanced up at Eleanor.

"How're you doing?" I ask, slightly laughing at her sleepy eyes.

"I'm okay. I'm glad she's here. Didn't think Louis would end up sobbing like he did, though. He made me cry along with him." She laughs.

"She's gorgeous. Worth the wait."

Eleanor agrees, "Yeah, she definitely was. Hopefully there will be lots of people coming in throughout the day so I can get some sleep. I'm fucking tired."

I laugh, "Go to sleep then. You know Harry will be stuck here all day obsessing over her, he'd be happy to watch her."

"I heard my name!" Harry yells from the couch on the opposite side of the room.

Louis shushes him, hitting his chest with the back of his hand, "Quiet."

"I said you'd be happy to watch Emerson whilst El sleeps." I explain in a hushed tone.

"Oh yeah! I would love to."

Eleanor sighs in relief, "I'm so glad we have you as a friend, Harry."

At 7:30 I left the hospital to run home before I had to get to work.

By the time I got back to my flat it was nearly 8 o'clock from the bad rush hour traffic and I had to hurriedly push a still sleeping Charlie off my couch, get dressed in something relatively appropriate for kindergarden teaching, and make it to the school by 8:30.

Since we are nearing on the Christmas holiday's and Winter Break, the entire school was putting on a little musical for parents, meaning my life the past couple days (and for the next two weeks) has been absolute hell.

I was put in charge of helping set and costume design with the little kids and it's been proving to be a lot harder than the initial thought.

Once I reach my desk, I drop my bag in the corner and flop into the spinning chair, exhausted.

With a half hour to spare before kids start piling through the doors, I grab my phone from my purse and shoot Harry a quick text.

To Harry:
hi hazza are you still with the baby?
