"So, should we let your dad know we're going to the forest?" I turned and asked Jason who was tossing his pokeball from hand to hand. We were outside of his house deciding what to do. "Because you know we're not allowed out of the city without trainer cards." I continued. "Nah it's cool, we'll be back before they notice. Stop worrying so much dude." he replied all nonchalantly. I hated when he acted so careless. It's not worrying; it's called planning ahead, I thought to myself. "Right. So what did Sam get you?" I said changing the topic.

"Uhh...an Aipom." he said and looked down at his feet. "Anyway, let's get a move on!" he said as he led the way towards the forest. The Viridian Forest resided in between Viridian City and Pewter City. Jason lived at the edge of the city, all the way north by the gym. My family lived in the south part of the the city by the entrance of Pallet town. While, Jason chatted about the starter he planned to get (Chimchar), I was lost in my thoughts about my future pokemon. I wanted something strong but, it definitely had to be a bug type. A Beedrill? Or maybe an Ariados. My thoughts were interrupted by Jason. "Dude are you even listening?" His face flushed with irritation. "Um, no sorry bro, I was thinking about what pokemon I wanted to catch."

"Oh. Well do you have an idea?" he asked. His whole demeanor changed at the sudden change of topics. "I want to be a bug type trainer. It's what I did all my projects at the academy on, I might as well right?" I explained. "Are you sure? There are plenty different types in the forest." he was clearly trying to hide his disapproval. I already knew what he thought of bug types; that they were weak and useless. But, I know this to not be true, pokemon are only as strong as their trainers. And I was willing to prove that.

We entered the Route conjunction and noticed that everyone in there were bug catchers. They were all focused on the big, flat screen tv on the wall across from the guard's counter. "-That seem to be coming out of nowhere, have been occurring a lot more recently in the regions. Residents of Cinnabar Island are warned to keep watching the news for more updates in case of emergency evacuation. This is Linda Evans reporting live from Cinnabar, back to you Jacob." The woman was sweating and clearly glad that her segment was over.

Replacing her was a man in a gray suit jacket, black tie and white shirt, back inside the news station. Apparently there seemed to be minor quakes and heat waves sweeping the Kanto and Johto regions. "So are you planning on staying here and getting caught?" Jason whispered while holding open the door leading to the forest.

The forest was breath taking. I've been waiting for years to come here. The forest was vast and smelled of fresh grass and dirt. Trees towered over us and you could hear Pidgeys in the treetops above us. The forest was busy with pokemon from Pikachus to Noctowls. I took it all in and began my search. "Oh snap!" Jason cried out.

"What did you lose now?" He had a bad tendency of losing stuff. "I forgot to get pokeballs." He flashed a nervous grin. My face fell. "I guess we better start begging I am not leaving until I get a pokemon." Glancing around I realized there wasn't anyone around. In fact, the forest was really quiet. Except for the faint noises and sounds of the wild pokemon, ofcourse.

"Wait! take out your Aipom, he might be able to find something we could trade. Aipoms have the Pickup ability." I told Jason.

" I actually rather not." he replied.

" C'mon stop being selfish dude. Just bring him out." I replied. Wait, he was hiding something. He was avoiding my eyes and looked very awkward and uncomfortable. " What is it? There's something your not telling me." I questioned. He began to say something but a voice interrupted.

" Help! Someone please!" the voice seemed to be coming from a little boy. I turned around quickly looking for the source. "What?" Jason was looking at me as if i was a Doduo. " You didn't hear that? Some kid is in trouble." I was still looking for the source.
