"Now what? I dont have time to sit around and wait this out. The distribution is in two days." At this point I was growing frustrated. Dale went over to a large boulder and sat down. He took off his back pack and brought out a black folded piece of paper. "Give me a sec..." He mumbled as he opened it up. I stood there arms crossed watching him. The paper was huge and I then realized it was a map. "Yup I was right! There's a tunnel that leads to Union Cave on the lowest floor. It would take us about 30 minutes or so to get there. From there we can go to Violet City and I have a friend that can fly us to Goldenrod." He said all this while folding the map back up.

"Great! Now let's get going." I demanded as I headed back, deeper in the cave. He laughed and followed suit. "So. Since I don't know anything about Pokemon training, why don't you teach me a few things?" I asked. This would give me a head start before the actual orientation. "I guess I could show you a thing or two. But you'll owe me." He grinned. I rolled my eyes. Not that he could see them anyway. "Yeah sure just teach me."

He started explaining about the different types. This was easy, majority of it I knew. He then taught me about catching Pokemon, abilities, and finally battle strategies. "You never want to over work your Pokemon, remember that they also have feelings." This continued through the whole way to the exit of Union Cave. It was a lot of information most of which I knew I would forget but still I learned a lot.

It was bright outside. Bright enough I had to close my eyes, then squint to let my eyes adjust. This was of course due to the time in the cave. "Finally! I was beginning to think this thing was wrong." He said holding up the folded map. I turned and gave a look with a sharp intake of breath. Dale had midnight black hair with Olive skin which contrasted with it. His green eyes shimmered in the brightness of the day. Above his right eyebrow was a thin straight scar that ran halfway above his eyebrow. Dale was very good looking and I realized I was staring when he said "Everything ok?"

I cleared my throat and tore my gaze from him. "Yeah. Oh and how did you find that route? I've never heard of it, nor seen it on any map." I replied. His face darkened and he seemed uncomfortable. "Oh well, this is a special map. Shane gave it to me." He said and began walking, not even waiting for me. We walked in silence for a while. I finally got the guts to speak up. "Hey I'm sorry for asking about the map..." I apologized but didn't look at him.

"Nah it's cool. I just don't really like talking about Shane that's all." He responded also looking straight ahead. "Am I allowed to ask why?" My tone changed to a more calmer one. "Let's just say, he isn't that great of a guy, that's all." The troubled boy answered. "Ok then. Hey, I can see the city from here." There was a tower in the distance. Also from this route we can see the conjunction.

"Yeah your right." He said. The sun was at it's peak and the sunshine was beating down on us. Thankfully there were plenty of trees in this area so we stuck to the shade. Pokemon rustled about in the trees and grass around us but none of them bothered us.

We finally reached the conjunction. Inside were many trainers standing around talking, others were looking at maps deciding which were the fastest routes and of course there were others watching the flat screen. As we passed I noticed the Silph. Co. symbol on the tv. I immediately thought of my dad and as a result my mom. My stomach sunk.

"Excuse me!" We both turned our heads. I completely forgot I was wanted. I kept my head low and looked at my sneakers. "Do you guys have a trainer card?" It was the conjunction guard. "Oh. Yes I do here." I saw Dale pull out his card and give it to the officer. "Very well, have a nice day!" I turned and speed walked out the doors.

"You have a trainer card? How old are you dude?" I asked Dale once we were outside. " Dale smirked. "I'm only 15." he said. "Oh so you've been to a distribution then? Which starter did you choose?" I asked. "I didn't get one. I never had the chance to go to one with all the moving around we've done. This card is a fake." He said with the same distant look he gave when he spoke of Shane earlier. "Oh.." I replied. Who was this kid? A fake trainer card? Something was telling me that there was more to this boy than just his good looks. It made me like him even more.
