The air was crisp, though a light fog settled in the still air. It was so quiet tonight. Too quiet. I looked below my balcony to see a young man wandering around, hands in his pockets. I squinted to get a closer look.
My age maybe, a little older. Never seen him around. Maybe I should go say hi, Ally wouldn't mind if I did. I smiled at my idea. It was a quiet little town where I lived. Few kids my age, aged buildings, quiet. Perfect for me. I lived with my sister Ally, she's cool I guess. I don't care too much for family anymore.
Why should I anyways? My past with my family gave me no reason to have faith in them. They had no care to leave me at three, and I was left with Ally when she was just thirteen when she was just learning how to really manage herself.
I twirled back into my house, tip-toed down the stairs and silently opened the door. I cautiously exited. I ran silently ran down the sidewalk, trying my best to catch that boy. He caught my eye for some reason. I don't know why exactly.
I saw his black hoodie in the distance. His slow and rythmatic pace, it was mesmerising. I asked him a question from where I stood. "Hello? Who are you?" I asked prodding. He stopped and turned his head slightly in my direction. "Why?" He asked, his deep voice echoing through the street. I cleared my throat.
"Well, you see I don't get to see many kids around my age here, your new aren't you?" I asked. He scratched his chin. "Yeah, got here last week. Names Leo." He responded still not looking at me, his head however turned in my direction. Secretive eh? "Names Faith. Mind if I give you a tour of the place?" I asked awaiting a responce.
He then pulled his hoodie away, looking at me now. He was older. His grey eyes glistned in the moonlight. His messy black hair battled to cover his eyes. His stone cold face sent shivers down my spine. "If you want to, yeah that's fine I guess." He responded. I smiled.
I walked up next to him, he was a tad taller than me. I began to lead him down the sidewalk. "So, how old are you?" I asked him. He peered down at me. "Seventeen. You?" He asked, his voice was piercing. "Fifteen, and a half." I responded. He didn't even show any emotion.
"What do you do here, got a job or anything?" I asked breaking the repeatingly lasting silence. He glanced over at me. "I uh, work with radioactive things. A nuclear plant." He responded. I smiled slightly.
"That's cool." I smiled shyly. I looked over to a restraunt. "Yeah I guess, you hungry or anything?" Leo asked as he now looked at me directly. "Yeah, but you don't have to pay for my food! I've got money." I defended sharply, knowing that it wasn't smart to do that. He sighed, rolling his eyes.
"So. You hungry or what? Want some food?" He asked again. I nodded in defeat. He then led us into the small eatery. The fresh smell of meats and vegetables engulfed my senses. I must've been drooling at one point.
We sat down at a table for two. I looked down. I twiddled my thumbs in awkwardness. I grabbed a menu to my left and began to read over it. "Are you ready to order?" A feminine voice called. I looked up, then back to my menu. "Shrimp and fries please." I smiled.
"Roast Beef and potatoes." Leo responded without lifting his gaze off the paper. "Your order will be ready soon." She smiled before turning away. Leo then looked at me in confusion. "Got an eye problem kid?" He asked. I jumped off gaurd. "N-no why?" I asked.
"Because you've been staring at me for the past three minutes and it's getting weird." He told me in seriousness. I frowned. "Sorry." I managed to mutter out. He wasn't the nicest was he? I focused my gaze on a mother and her son. The were sitting down all the way on the other side of the restraunt.
The boy repeatedly placed his hands where they shouldn't of been on the table, talking very loud as well. The mother's face was that of disappointment and emmaresment. She kept telling him to stop from what I could tell. I smiled. At least he has a family that loves him. Lucky.
"Hey, get your head out of the clouds. Food's here." Leo spat as he was obviously annoyed. I smirked nervously. "Eh, sorry." I apologized briefly. The woman must of slipped the food on our table when I wasn't looking. The plate of food in front of me surprisingly didn't look appeasing.
I heard the boy in front of me chewing. "Aye." He started, then finished swallowing. "You gonna eat or just sit there day-dreaming? Huh?" He hissed. Now I'm done with his attitude. "Who do you think you are talking to me like that? It's my food! I'm paying for it! Does it matter to you if I eat or not?" I snapped, shaky with anger.
He stiffened with those words. He gritted his teeth. "Who do you think you are talking to me like that? Huh, little girl?" He teased rudely. My face turned red with frustration. "Little girl? I'm fifteen! I'm almost a grown women!" I snapped back standing up from my chair. He just laughed.
I growled. "Look cupcake, I just wanted to have a peaceful dinner, that's all. Your throwing a fit just because I asked you to eat your food. You need to eat, I mean look at you." He gestured towards my body. I pursed my lips with embarrassment. "W-well, you don't look too up to size to me!" I shot back.
He rolled his eyes, hiding a smirk with his hand. "You know what, it was nice talking to you, but I got to go home, it's late, my sisters probably miss me, and you're being a complete ass about this. See yah." He spat as he stood up to leave. My face burned red.
I placed a ten on the table and followed him. "Oh no you don't! You can't just tell me off like that and expect me to just allow you to walk away! Are you crazy!?" I shot out at him as he kept walking away from me. "Ugh, you're so annoying. Why don't you go home to your mommy and cry about it." He hissed.
"I don't have a mother you brat!" I shot out, my head down. He stared at me, his smile fading. I felt a hot tear slip past my lids. I wiped my eyes. "I don't. Have a mom." I said calmly once more. "Whoa, hey I'm sor" "No! Just stop, just go home, don't look back, and while your at it, don't come back!" I interrupted.
I then turned my back from him, I started to walk away. Then I felt his grab my sleeve. "Look, I'm sorry! I really am! I was trying to play that's all!" He defended. I grinded my teeth together. "Just playing huh." I chuckled. I frowned. I wanted to come up with a come back but I couldn't.
Tears then streamed down my face. I covered my face with my hands but I felt Leo place his hands on my arms. He pulled them down and peered into my red stained eyes. "It's okay, please stop." He whined. Was he actually feeling bad for me. Someone as cold as him had feeling.
I wiped my eyes and looked down. Before I could say anything, Leo wrapped his arms around me and pulled me to his chest. I blushed hard. I could hear his heartbeat, it's soothing sound. I smiled and curled my arms to my chest. "Look, I'm sorry okay? Forgive me?" He asked me.
I nodded, still blushing. He was blushing some too from what I could see. "I could, walk you home if you want me to." He offered. I smiled. "That would be nice." I responded. He then walked up to my side, then we walked together. It was pretty silent.
"I guess I'll see you soon?" I asked. He shrugged. "I'm around starting at five." He told me as we neared my house. I smiled. "Ok. I'll see you tomorrow." I smiled. He then playfully pushed me towards my house. "See yah around kid." He laughed as he walked forward. I waved, though he didn't turn back to look.
I walked inside, it was still quiet and Ally was asleep. Good. I tip-toed up to my room, then sat on my bed. I curled my legs up to my chest and clutched them. I let out a sigh of relief. "You've done it Faith. You've made a friend." I smiled. "You made a friend."
