Avery's POV
I nodded thinking about it. That's not a bad idea.
I decided it was time to go 'home'. Old Joey dropped me off at my house.
"Text me if you need anything!" He ordered me.
"Yes, dad." I exaggerated playfully. He smiled and waved goodbye before he drove off.
Taking out my keys, I made my way to the front door and unlocked it. I walked but it looked abandoned. Dishes everywhere and no one was here.
Survival Mode: On.
My body tense and anger seeping out like waves of a raging ocean. I scanned the place for any clues as to where they are or who took them. I pulled out my laptop and started hacking the house cameras, street cameras, and the police systems.
I checked the house cameras first, I saw them packing some clothes and essentials. Then I switched to the street cameras.
There it was, my parent's car, everyone got in and they drove the way to the airport I think. To confirm my suspicion, I hacked the airport system and saw that they booked some tickets to Hawaii. Phew. I breathed out a sigh of relief. At least they're safe.
I look around and my eyes landed on a note posted on the fridge;
"I don't know where you are, I don't really care.
But, we're going to Hawaii for two months.
Have fun loser.
Curses,
Isabella x."I rolled my eyes. I didn't want to stay in the house with the police snooping around since you would have to pay a fee if you leave a minor alone, I'm only seventeen. I washed the dishes and put them away. Pigs.
I made sure the house was tidy and rushed upstairs to pack enough of my things for 3 months.
After I've done so, I locked the door and made my way out of the house and back on the streets. I contemplated calling Old Joey, but they've already helped me enough.
I walked till I came across a foster agency. Hmm, not a bad idea. I sat down and made myself fake the waterworks. After a few tries, I succeeded.
I walked in with my head down as I walked to the front desk.
"Are you okay sweetie?" I heard a voice ask. I shook my head no.
"I don't know where my parents are, I went backpacking with some of my friends and I'm lost. A-And, I d-don't k-know." I burst out crying. She looked at me sympathy clear in her eyes.
"I can call the police to help you find your parents, dear." She offered.
"P-Please no, they don't have much money and I don't want them to face some consequences." I pleaded. "Could you maybe find me a temporary foster home?" I asked hopefully wiping my tears.
She nodded. "What's your name sweetie?"
"Annabelle Indigo" I stated without hesitation.
"Beautiful name sweetheart." She smiled at me.
"Thank you," I mumbled looking down.
"Sit over there, I'll see if I can get a temporary foster family for you."I nodded in response and sat down.
After a few minutes and a few calls made, she approached me.
"Hey sweetie, so, I found a family that doesn't mind taking you in for a while. Their names are Marie and Anthony Fisher. Lovely people and down to earth." She stated.
The bell chimed behind her, she turned around and turned back to me. "In fact, there they are."
"Thank you so much for your help." I hugged her thanks.
"You're welcome. I hope you find your family soon." She chuckled and smiled up at me. She led me to the family and introduced me.
"Marie, Anthony, this is Annabelle Indigo. She will be your temporary foster child." I waved hello.
"Hey there!" Marie pulled me into a bone-crushing hug.
"Marie you're going to kill her before we have a chance to bring her back to the house. Calm down." Anthony laughed. She laughed with him and let me go and I chuckled.
"Hey!" I waved.
"Nice to meet you we are the Fishers." Anthony stuck his hand out.
"Nice to meet you guys. My name is Annabelle Indigo." I shook his hand.
"Beautiful name darling." Marie complimented.
"Thank you!"
"Shall we go?" Anthony suggested. We nodded and into their car. After a crazy car ride with a lot of singing, laughing, and bad jokes, we finally arrived at their place.
We got out of the car and I stared at their house. Lying to them didn't seem right, they are nice people.
"Hey, guys?" I called out.
"Yes?" They answered at the same time.
"I'm going to be completely honest with you guys since it doesn't seem right to lie to you all." I paused then continued. "My name is Avery Johnson, the only reason I'm here is that my family went on a holiday to Hawaii for two months without me." I let out a breath and looked back up to them.
They looked at each other for quite a while. It looks like they can communicate with their eyes. After a while, they looked back at me and shrugged. "Whatever."
"Wait, what? You're okay with that?" I asked surprised.
"I don't see any problem with that. You need a place to stay, and you're welcome to stay here." They smiled at me.
"Wow, thanks." I smiled back.
"No problem, now come on. You must be hungry and tired. We're having some pork ribs for dinner." Marie winked at me.
"Alright, seriously, you guys have to adopt me." We laughed.
- 2 months later -
It was time to leave the Fishers and I wasn't keen on that. I've grown to love them as I do Old Joey and his little bunch. It's now May 10th, two days till my birthday, two days till I'm eighteen, and two days till I'm free.
They dropped me off at my house and I thanked them for everything and said my goodbyes. We exchanged phone numbers and promise to keep in touch with one another.
"Bye guys, and thank you so much!" I waved them goodbye.
"No problem sweetheart, you're welcome anytime!" They yelled out from the window.
After final goodbyes were said, they drove away and I made my way to the front door. They weren't home yet, which was good. There was school tomorrow so I washed up and went to bed early.
Tomorrow I will break the good news to everyone, well everyone that cares at least.
