Chapter I
I woke up to the sound of my phone alarm ringing right on my bedside. I groaned in complaint, snoozed it off, and rolled my small physique under the duvet as I returned to my slumber. Just when I was about to close my eyes again, I hear a faint sound of footsteps coming towards my room and a series of knocks on my wooden door.
“Wake up, girl. It’s 7. School starts in an hour,” said my mom on the other side.
Ugh. I hate it. Can I just have another weekend already? I don’t technically dislike school – just the people in it. They are full of bullshit. No one thinks like I do, which basically turned me into a sociopath and not have any friends. In my point of view, I’m not crazy. They are. They just come and go. I don’t like that. Well, that’s just one of the million reasons why I despise high school.
“I don’t think I’ll go to school today. I just— I feel unwell,” I searched for an excuse. Unoriginal, sure, but it always does the trick.
“What’s wrong?” she asked, alarmed. “Open the door.”
I sighed and got on my feet then sauntered slowly to the door. I passed by the mirror on the way and let me tell you it wasn’t a lovely sight to see. My red locks appeared like a nasty nest on top of my head. I had dark circles around my eyes and had a line of drool running down the lower side of my cheek. Not something beautiful to wake up to, to be quite honest. Unlocking the door, my mother immediately burst in and rested the back of her palm against my forehead.
“Oh it’s not that bad, Luna. Stop act like you’re 5, you are 16 already!” she exclaimed with a frown, both her hands on her hips. “You’re going to school.”
“But—” I tried to defend myself. But then she stopped on her tracks and turned around once more to face me.
“No buts!” she said in a stern tone, wagging a warning finger in front of me. “You better get prepared.”
“I feel nauseous,” I took another shot in reasoning as I groaned exaggeratedly and grimaced in a very ugly manner while rubbing my head.
“Just get some aspirin in the medicine box,” she said casually with a sigh, pursing her lips. “Don’t be spoiled it’s just a regular headache.”
She then turned around and stepped out of the area. Why do I have a mother like this? I mean a step-mother. Yep, she is my step-mother. Like Cinderella, she had a step-mother who only acts like an angel when her husband was around. And when he’s gone, she drops the good girl act and turns into a spawn of the devil.
I took a fast shower then quickly prepared everything for school. I left my auburn hair as it is, combing it a little and letting it flow naturally down my head and into my shoulders. Without a word, I left the house and decided to walk to school since it’s wasn’t too far from here. Besides, I consider it an exercise so I could keep myself in shape. The bus wouldn’t even help because bullying and pestering start in the vehicle and I do not want to start my day in a bad note.
Today the subject was Algebra. But before anything else, let me say that I hate every subject that related to counting and solving. I sucked at it – big time. I prefer writing or doing something related to art, like painting, drawing or singing. I breezed through the room like Invisible Man, seeing people busy with their own business. Some were throwing paper balls to each other. Idiots. A couple was making out at the back of the room. Immoral. And some were laughing hysterically. I roll my eyes. I know they just gossip and backstab like other girls do. Like I said before, I really don’t have friends here. Hey, it’s not that I don’t like making friends, it’s just that I can’t find people who understand what I say and accepted way I act.
The teacher came in and the noisy classroom immediately silenced in a snap of a second. Even one could hear a pin drop with the kind of stillness of the atmosphere that engulfed me.
Then soon, he began the lesson.

After having a bad day because of squares and cubes today, I decided to go to the park before heading home. It was my secret hideout – a place for me to think and watch the world spin around me. Alone.
As I reached the park I sat and rested my head on a big tree near the lake. I opened my backpack and took out my journal book from inside. I clicked the top my pen and started writing. When I was about to put my thoughts into paper, I suddenly felt something hard and solid hit me.
“Ow!” I cried, rubbing the spot that was affected, which unfortunately, was the back of my head. I turned my face to see who had tossed the stone towards me and narrowed my eyes into slits, only to see a guy sitting on the grass while looking at the lake. I think he didn’t realize that he just threw a rock to the wrong direction.
I glared at him for a while, dropping my things to my side once blood started to boil in me. I watched him slump his shoulders as he sighed and got to his feet. When he turned around, he finally I saw me staring at him. His eyebrows furrowed in curiosity, obviously oblivious to why I was looking daggers at him.
“What’s wrong?” he said in a calm voice as he slowly approached me, with no hint of any frustration, just inquisitiveness.
“The person that supposed to ask that question is me! You accidentally threw a stone at my head” I shouted with exasperation eminent in my tone. “What is wrong with you?”
“I— I’m sorry,” he quickly said, frowning. “I didn’t mean to do it. I was just throwing it towards the lake.”
I rolled my eyes at his unnecessary explanation and decided to ignore him, finally finding a reason to write in my journal – my frustrations about the moment.
“Hey,” he tried once more, finally plopping down on his bottom just beside me as we shared the shade the tree provided us on this beautiful afternoon. “You’re giving me the silent treatment now?”
I didn’t bothered looking at him anymore. Just keep writing,Luna…Just keep writing…
“Look, I already did this but I’m gonna do it again,” he said, taking a deep dramatic breath. “I’m sorry.”
I finally lifted my head up to look at him. I sucked in a breath. This man was gorgeous. When I was about to say something, the sides of his lips curl up into a beautiful smile. I suddenly felt my cheeks burning up and butterflies to fly wildly around my stomach. I already knew this stranger was going to be the death of me.
