I woke up on the morning of Valentine's Day to the sound of my alarm beeping. I sat up and looked over at Orlando's bed to see he wasn't in it; which was unusual because I was usually up before him. I picked my phone up and after disconnecting it from the charger, checked my text messages and notifications. Demi had sent me a text wishing me a happy Valentine's Day and another text telling me that he had a surprise for me. I texted him back a few messages before climbing out of bed to get ready for the day. While in the bathroom getting ready for my shower, I took a look at my hair and unexpectedly wanted a change.
"Oh my God," Demi said to me as we met up for lunch later that day. "You cut your hair?"
"Yeah," I replied nervously. "So, do you like it?"
"Quentin, you look so...cute. Baby, I love it." He ran his hands over my head and then stood on the tips of his toes to kiss my lips. "What made you get rid of your messy fro?"
"I don't know. I just wanted a change. It's been a minute since my hair has been cut this low. Do you really like it, boo?"
"I really do, baby." He grabbed my hand and said, "Come on, let's get inside. I'm starving."
We headed into the student union building and made our way to the dining hall to get some lunch. While we waited in line to get burgers and fries, I put my arm around him from behind and whispered in his ear, "I bought you somethin' special for Valentine's Day."
"That's funny because I bought a few special things for you, too."
"A few special things? Demi, how much stuff did you get me?"
"You'll see tonight before the club."
"Well, we can skip the club if you just wanna get right to it."
"Nope, I wanna see what couple's night is all about. Besides, I've already paid for our VIP section."
"You got us a VIP section? Demi, I could've handled that."
"I know you could've but I wanted to do it. I also want to be the one who drives us since you've been driving us everywhere else lately. We're equal partners, Quentin."
I laughed a little before agreeing, "True. Okay, we'll take your car instead of my new and improved Tahoe."
"I still can't believe it took them this long to certify your insurance claim and get you another one. It seems like the accident was so long ago. You've been driving rentals for the longest."
"I know but I got my ride now. Them little ass rental cars ain't got shit on my Tahoe." The line finally moved up and we were able to get our food. We found an empty high table near the balcony and sat down on the tall stools. While eating, I asked him, "You got anything planned for this upcoming weekend?"
"No. Why?"
"I was thinkin' about goin' to visit my dad on Saturday."
"Aw. Well, I'd be happy to go there with you."
"Cool, we can leave Saturday mornin'. I'll call the prison and schedule it today after my football trainin' session."
"I think your dad is awesome."
"You mean for a murderer?"
"Quentin, you know I don't think of him like that. He did a bad thing but from what I can tell, he's a good guy."
