Jax and his friends didn't encounter anyone that was too strong. Plus, they were working together. They've worked together before, so they knew what to do.
Other participants either didn't trust their own teammates or were working alone. This gave Jax's friends an advantage that they exploited. They were on the hunt for other participants, just like everyone else.
"The stronger ones must've stayed in the beginning stage." Talien said. The others agreed.
"Let's hope they kill each other off." Jax replied. Talien and Helen looked at each other. They knew Jax was in a bad mood. They nodded to each other, knowing what to do if things got out of hand.

With a loud horn signaling the end of the round, Azreal opened his eyes once again and looked over the balcony. He saw that Brandon was still alive, as well as an unknown swordsman.
"Viktor, was it?" Azreal asked. The swordsman looked up.
"Yea. And what if I am?" He replied. Azreal shook his head and looked over the horizon.
'They're alive.' He thought to himself.
'Good.' He replied to himself.
After half an hour later, the remaining participants arrived at the open field. The Headmaster stood up to start his speech.
"For those of you that made it, congratulations. For those that didn't, there's always next time." The eliminated hung their heads and walked out of the field while the ones who passed, celebrated, of which there were 50.
"The second round is an actual tournament. 25 rounds. One against one." The participants looked at each other, sizing them up.
"Now, we'll be doing things differently, the Kings and Queens shall be the ones to choose your opponent." This surprised all the Queens and all but one King.
"Now then, Azreal, you pick first." He looked over the participants.
"Jax and Viktor." He said. And with a snap of his fingers, everyone but the two participants disappeared and reappeared within the audience.
A second later, most of the participants puked and the others were close to doing so.
While others were processing what happened, the Headmaster was shocked.
"Mass teleportation!" He exclaimed. As those words registered into the minds of everyone, they all turned to look at Azreal, some in awe, some in confusion, and some in fear. It required a lot of mana for large scale magic, after all.
Azreal didn't even bother to glance at the others and blended back into the shadows.

Jax's POV
I observed my opponent as he did the same.A swordsman, probably focusing on speed and agility.
'This'll be a pain'
I drew my sword and took my stance. A basic stance, with my hands in front of me, hip level, and my sword vertical.
My opponent also readied his stance, crouched slightly, right hand on the handle of his blade, left hand holding the sheath. A defensive stance.
I walked forward slowly, until we were barely 4 meters apart. We then started circling one another, watching out for any openings. We couldn't find any, even after what felt like hours, though I don't doubt it was only a minute.
Seeing that we were both weren't going to get anywhere, we stuck at the same time. He swung at me horizontally, aiming to cut my chest while I charged up a stabbed, with my hands on the right side of my body, blade forward towards my opponent.
As his swing cuts towards me, I duck to dodge and push off with my legs, speeding towards him. At this point, I got within the 1 meter mark and stab my sword towards his heart.
Before my stab could reach, he used his left arm, holding the sheath, to knock my sword away. Finishing his swing from before, he pulled back and stabbed toward me. In the short amount of time he took to do that, I stomped my left foot to stop my momentum and spun to the right, but dropped low to dodge the stab.
With a full sweep, I caught his legs and tripped him. Continuing the spin, I used to momentum to swing my sword at him. Seeing that, he moved his blade in front of him, in an awkward position to defend himself, but as my attack lands, I tilt my hand to slide my sword along his, going past his hastily put up defense.
With that, I jumped on top of him and put my blade across his neck. Before he even had the chance to surrender, I used my other hand and pushed down along my blade to decapitate my opponent. With that, the battle was over.
I stood and looked up to a stunned crowd. I was confused for a second before I remember that city folk usually don't have to deal with death everyday.
I shook my head of those thoughts and looked for Azreal. 'He's not here?' As soon as I finish those words, I felt a presence behind me. I immediately swung my sword backwards on instinct only to strike a metal wall.
Or so I thought.
"Azreal." He only looked at me for a second before focusing his attention on my dead opponent.
Seeing that he wasn't interested in me, I looked at what blocked my attack to find that it was his shadow. I sighed.
"You're strong." I looked back at him only to see the body submerge into the ground. Actually, looking closer, it was his shadow again.
"What're you doing with him?" He didn't even asked me before disappearing into his shadow. 'Must be his power.' I turned my head towards the headmaster.
"Round 1! Jax wins!" With that, I was teleported to the viewing platform.
"Next up, Elizabeth. Pick your fighters."
"I choose-" I started spacing out and eventually fell asleep.
