"We lose ourselves in the things we love. We find ourselves there too."

Kristin Martz

She sat there, surrounded by papers and a laptop screen which showed that her whole life has been turned upside down. She didn't want to cry, although a part of her wanted to scream and obliterate this whole universe. Even though her eyes were watery, she wasn't letting those tears fall on her cheeks. Some of the papers were rejection letters from different universities, national and international, and some were telling her abilities and achievements; her certificates and result cards. Her mind was blank and occupied at the same time. Her phone rung, she picked it up hopelessly. ''Hey Minha, what happened?Did you get admission somewhere?" Her friend Waliyah asked excitedly. She simply said no. ''But how...?" Waliyah asked, surprised. Minha just cut off the phone and threw the phone across the room. She didn't want to talk to anyone.

One by one, she started cutting the rejection letters. Until her mother's voice hit her ears." Minha, come downstairs, tea is ready." She shoved the pile of papers under her bed and walked towards the lounge. The house was quiet. As soon as she entered the hall, she was met by her father's unusually gloomy eyes and her sibling's occult stares. She was already expecting this. Minha took her tea. Her Father began, ''We, your mother and I, have talked to your uncle Khan about your further studies", the room fell quiet again. Qadir Khan was her father's long-term friend. He was a professor of psychology at Karachi University. Most of the educational decisions in their household were made with his help. Her mother talked, "He thinks instead of applying for engineering, you should opt for psychology. He has already emailed you details of some universities. Take a look and tell us what do you think.'' Her mother finished with a smile. She acquiesced as usual and went back to her room. ''How much time do you think it will take her to get back to normal?'' Her mother asked. '' Maybe Forever'', her father sighed.

Unknown POV:

Tomorrow is my first day of school. I am nervous as well as excited. Grandma wants me to save all these moments forever so she is making Madilyn write for me. I am speaking and Maddy is writing. I didn't sleep last night because I was too hyped (I learned this word yesterday). I am going to make lots of friends and I will be extremely popular. I hope everyone likes me even though I am different. Last night, grandma gave me dad's diary. He wrote it too with the help of his father. I have never met my father. I wish I could. All of my friends at the Montessori had dads. They played with them, taught them soccer, cycled with them and much more. Mom never speaks about him and grandma ... I don't know about her. Sometimes she pulls out dad's trunk and goes through his things. After this whole charade, she cries for hours. In dad's diary, grandpa has written he is proud of him, on his first day of school. I wish dad you were here to write this about me instead of Madilyn.
