8:45 in the evening. It's already night, and tomorrow, I'm about to be discharged from the hospital.
Kaori stayed in my room for almost a few hours after Edward left.
And also, I didn't do anything but read and play at my cellphone, while Kaori is busy reading some few magazines she bought.
"Ano, Ichi, about what happened yesterday..." Kaori started to speak.
"Yes?" I said.
"I wanna..." she stuttered.
"What is it?" I asked again.
"I wanna thank you... for saving my life..." Kaori said in a soft voice.
That really was unexpected.
"That's okay. Anyway, you're welcome. I only did that because you're in danger, of course." I said.
"You know that I can't leave an old friend alone. Because you are the most important person in my life, Kaori. I just don't want you to be gone." I said.
Kaori smiled and then she approached me again.
"Well, then how does it feel to be a hero who saved a princess?" Kaori asked.
Really? That is the only question she had?
Naaahhh, I'm just joking.
"It's hard, you know. I almost got myself killed by Sakura again while I'm trying to shield you from her, because you were unconscious at that time. And also, I saved Seria's life from Mephisto, then I used my Gear to annihilate all of the Fallen Angels who took you. I almost killed myself out there, you know. Plus, the entire rescue mission is like a suicide. We're already outnumbered and..." I explained until she stopped me.
"And it seems to me that you guys had a hard time saving my ass out there." she said.
Yeah, I guess she's right about that. We do have a hard time saving her.
Kaori once again smiled and then she snapped my forehead again.
Chhhuukkk....
Ooouuuccchhh...
"Next time you guys are gonna save me, please don't complain." she said.
"Hey, c'mon, who else won't complain after all the hard time we just took on saving your life?" I said.
"Well, it doesn't matter anymore." she said.
What the hell?
"All that matters is that you saved me, and now that Sakura's gone, at least you can protect me from all the dangers we may face someday." she said.
"Anyway, thank you again, Ichi. You really are the greatest friend I've ever met in my life." she said.
"You were really cool by the time you saved my life. I think I'm beginning to like you, ever since you saved me." she added.
I never spoke a word for a moment and I thought of something about what she just said.
I never thought that I could be useful again.
After she speaks, I spoke to her again.
"Nee, Kaori, I have something to say to you." I said.
"What is it?" she asked.
"When I talked to your dad, I made a promise to him that no matter what happens, I'll be taking on the role of protecting you from all the dangers you may face someday." I explained to her.
"Ichi..." Kaori muttered.
She never spoke a word as I talk to her.
"Kaori, listen carefully. I have failed to protect you that day, and this time, I swear that I'll protect you, even if it costs my life. I never wanted this to happen to you, but believe me," I hold her hands as I talk, "I promise that I won't lose you out of my sight again. The Order will not take you away from me anymore. I'll do everything what I can to protect you, I promise that."
Kaori felt silent as I held her hands tightly. I promised to her that I will be the one who will protect her, even if her dad can't protect her.
After I promised to protect her, Kaori suddenly hugged me tightly.
Her eyes are beginning to shed tears when she hugged me.
And with a soft voice, she said to me:
"Ichi, you idiot. Why would you do this? Why would you promise dad that you will save me? You will only kill yourself. You already know anything about the war we're fighting and all the dangers you may face someday, yet you put yourself into this. I never wanted you to protect me anyway, but since that you already accepted this, I have no choice but to acknowledge you as my knight. But if you wanted to protect me, promise me, Ichi."
I looked on to her as she shows her crying face to me.
"Please, I don't want you to die. You've tried so hard to protect me from my father's enemies, and now you wanted this! Please, I beg of you, if you wanna protect me that bad, then don't die for me. I don't wanna lose you in this war, I don't want my friend to die." she said.
I smiled. I didn't say anything for a moment, then I wiped the tears from her eyes and I hugged her back.
"I'm doing this because I'm your friend, Kaori. I don't wanna lose you. I know that your dad doesn't wanna lose you, so he entrusted me to protect you and your siblings since he's doing his part as the Demon King. So I promise you." I said to her with a smile and a gentle voice.
"I promise you that no matter what, I'll not die. Because I'll be the one to protect you." I said.
Okay, now I'm beginning to sound like a knight.
A loyal and brave knight.
"Ichi..." she says again.
After that intense moment of drama, Kaori speaks again.
"Anyway, Ichi. If you want to be my protector, promise me all these things I'm gonna say." she said.
"Okay, whatever you wish." I said.
"First, if you want to be my protector, don't you dare do anything lewd to me . Second, don't do anything that is very idiotic such as charging against the enemy first and doing a suicide charge. Third, I want you to come with me every weekends to the mall, so that we can hang out like what you did to Sakura a few days ago. Fourth, make sure that you will serve me like a princess. And finally, if you peep at me again while I'm taking a shower, I'm gonna make you fall asleep forever." she explained.
Okay, now she's threatening me.
"Really, do you have to say those kinds of things to me? I can't do all these stuff! It's like you're already turning me into your personal slave." I said.
"Oi, I'm not turning you into a slave, I only wanted you to help me on all the things I'm doing. And anyway, you accepted this so try to take full responsibility on it." she said.
"C'mon, now you're giving me a headache." I said to her.
"It's not like that, okay! And don't you dare turn your back on me while I'm talking to you. Oi, Ichi!" she cried.
"Ichi, wake up!" she tried to shake me.
"Instead of letting me help you, you're only making things worse!" I said.
"You said that you want to protect me, so this is what you'll get on saying those things to me!" she said.
"C'mon, knock it off already!!" I cried.
Well, I might say that this really is unlucky.
Ever since I talked to her about protecting her, this happened. I never get a peaceful sleep and rest. We continued to argue until daybreak.
I don't know know what to say, but I guess you already know it.
UNLUCKY ME!!!
