 "We've got you now!"

 "End of the line, punk!

Then there was a flash. A cry for help.

I awoke to find myself screaming in bed.

"Oh, my gosh. One of those dreams again."

My name was Martante Arano Jones, but everyone just calls me Mason. I prefer it over that bizarre name anyway. I'm just a normal 14-year-old guy, living a normal schedule of going to school everyday.

Oh, did I mention fighting for my life?

You see, I live in this remote city Jermaten. Unmapped and frankly unheard of for most outsiders. It takes up a small part of northern Canada, far beyond normal human capabilities. It isn't even in part of a province. However, those who live here have naturally adapted to the environment, and we even support hundreds of animal species. It's a city devolped far beyond all others in the world. Our tech, our structures, and even our vehicles are more advanced than anywhere else. It's comparable to all the Star Wars and Blade Runners, Terminators and Star Treks.

It's a great place to live, except for "the draft.'

People and their friends always talk of rumors of the draft. Not very much is known about it, but I've heard that when people are drafted, not all of them are ever seen again. That's about it. It takes innocent random people and pits them somewhere against one another. At least, that's what's generally presumed.

Me and my buddy Pre would occasionaly bring it up. In fact, we've recently talked about it. We discussed the horror of it all. The lack of humanity.

"You know, I have know idea why they'd do this. Why would they put people through this?" questioned Pre, confused about the concept.

"Rumor has it that corprate runs it, but for why?" I shot back.

"Corprate" is a staple name given to whoever the person or people are the run the city. This elite group watches over the town, and handles most government duties. Being that we are so remote, we are free from the official Canadian goverment. After many years of anachary, corprate took over and decided with the citizens how to mold our own government. We live in a Presidential Democracy, lead by Shak Tei, who's ethnicity is not Canadian. It's not uncommon for people here to have "out-of-the-norm" names that would be considered strange in other parts of the world.

So that's how this runs.

Time to get to how it turned to ruins.
