Alexander begins to laugh at his own stupid joke, and I fake a smile. He's getting about as bad as Jack with the whole joke thing.
"Okay, okay. I have another one." He says in between laughing.
I groan and look down at him, his head laying in my lap. The sun reflecting off of his sunglasses nearly blinds me, and I reach over for my own pair.
"You ready?"
"Do I have to hear it?" I beg.
"Yes. Okay, why was six afraid of seven?" he asks, forcing in his laughter.
"God, Xander, that joke wasn't even funny in the first grade. Because seven ate nine." I say, rolling my eyes.
"No. Because seven was a registered six offender." He says, bursting into a fit of laughter.
I groan and glare down at him, though he can't see it through the tinted sunglasses. Maybe he's even worse than Jack when it comes to stupid jokes.
I take an apple out of the basket of food and take a bite out of it. Just as I do, Alexander snatches it out of my hand and takes a bite for himself.
I playfully slap him in the side of the head, but he still doesn't give the apple back. I take the one that as supposed to he his out of the basket for myself.
"Alright, okay this one's good." He says with a mouthful of apple bits.
"Xander, I'm really tired of-"
"This one's really good though! Okay, where do wasps go when they get hurt?" he asks with the same childish smile.
I shrug my shoulders and shake my head. He has been telling these jokes since we got here. He could barely even eat his lunch because he was laughing so hard at his own jokes.
"The waspital. Get it? Like hospital? Waspital?" he says, badly attempting to stifle his laughter.
"I get it." I say in an annoyed tone. I'm not really annoyed or mad at him, but I'm so tired of his lame jokes.
"Oh come on, they're good jokes!" Alexander states.
"Yeah, where'd you get them?
Laffy-Taffy wrappers?" I ask with a slight laugh.
"No." He says, sounding slightly offended. "Would they really put a joke about a number being a rapist on a Laffy-Taffy?"
I shrug my shoulders then look around the park. There are tons of people here, but the two of us are pretty isolated under one of the trees in the park. Even under the tree, the sunlight is streaming in everywhere.
I'm caught off guard when I hear a jingle of metal to my right. I turn my head over, and see a large German shepherd running full speed towards us.
I don't know how to react at first, not sure if the dog had plans to act aggressively or not. I relax a little when the dog slows down and rolls over right beside me.
Alexander laughs a little and reaches over to pet the dog. When I lean over to play with it, Alexander groans below me.
"Move back over! You were blocking the sunlight perfectly." He whines.
I fake a pout and lean down closer to him, still lying comfortably across my lap.
"I'm sorry. Didn't realize I was only here to block your sunlight." I say with a smirk.
"Smart-ass." He says with a smile before leaning his face up to meet mine.
Just as his lips are less than an inch away from mine, I hear a familiar voice call nearby.
I bring my head up and look over to see Zachary running across the park, red leash in hand. The German shepherd beside me gets up and runs at him.
I watch as Zachary clips the leash to the dog's collar. When he looks over at us, he looks shocked to see that it is me.
"Isabelle?" he calls out in confusion.
I wave my hand and see him grin widely before walking over with the dog beside him. I see the familiar light-brown haired girl follow up behind him.
The two of them get to the tree that Xander and I are sitting under and sit beside us.
"Hey best friend!" Zachary says when he sits down. He takes the sunglasses off and looks at the two of us. He looks slightly confused when he looks at Alexander.
Have I even told them about Alexander?
After two years of all this, I haven't even said anything to my two best friends.
Alexander sits up straight, taking his head off of my lap. He leans against the tree and smiles at Zachary and Sydney.
"Uh...hi?" Sydney questions.
I laugh nervously and look down at my hands. "Um, Zach and Sydney, this is Xander."
Zachary smiles at Alexander and forces the pacing dog to sit. "Nice to meet you Xander."
Alexander and Zachary start to talk about something, but I don't really listen to their conversation. All I can focus on is Sydney's glare.
After a while, she scoots over to sit beside me.
"I'm your best friend and you haven't even told me about him? Dude, he's hot!" she says in a hushed tone.
I stifle a laugh and glance at Alexander, talking passionately with Zachary about something. Most likely football or some stuff that I don't care about.
I look back at Sydney, who is gawking at Alexander. I snap my fingers in front of her face.
"Wake up. Your boyfriend of like forever is sitting right there." I say, gesturing to Zachary.
She looks to him and fakes disgust before looking back at Alexander. Finally, I get tired of watching her stare him down and try to tune in to their conversation.
I get bored after a few seconds and pay my attention back to Sydney, now talking in a really quiet tone.
"You can check out my boyfriend while I check out yours. I don't care." She says with a slight smile.
It takes all I have in me not to burst into laughter. I mean, Zachary's attractive and all, but he's also my best friend. It makes me uncomfortable that I used to have such a big crush on him.
"But seriously, look at Alexander, and look at Zach. How did I end up with that and you end up with that?" She exclaims.
I look back at the two boys and see that she is right. Alexander is at least 2 times as big as Zachary. Alexander isn't overweight, by all means, but he is extremely muscular. Zachary is one of the scrawniest boys in the entire school. And Alexander is so tall; Zachary is just a few inches taller than me.
I hear my name come up in their conversation and snap my head back up.
"So you guys are like a couple?" Zachary asks.
Are we a couple?
I'm waiting for Alexander's answer, since he still is in a relationship with Nicole and all.
But he surprises me when he smiles and turns to look at me. "Yeah. She's my girl."
I wrote more than a chapter today I'm proud of myself. Anyways, I had a question for you guys that I wanted you to answer in the comments. Who is your favorite person in the story? Other than that, nothing really big in this author's note. As always, thank you for all the votes and comments :)
