Millie's pov
Finn grabbed my hand once again and started leading my through the halls, hesitantly. There were more people now if that was even possible, the flashing lights made me squint my eyes, and I could already feel myself sweating. Little strands of hair were sticking to the side of my sweaty face, I ran my free hand through my hair shoulder length hair
"Listen, Millie. You might be surprised at first but Iris, when she dropped out of college had no money, and really needed a job so she took the first one she was offered, and after a while she got...really, really good, so she stuck with it" Finn explained cheeks getting pink as we came to a stop in front a hall named 'the circus room'
I stopped staring at the name. I grew up thinking the circus was made out of a bunch of freaks, until I met Maddie. She had told me she used to be in the circus, she would dance and do acrobatics in front of thousands of people... but the audience got tired of seeing her over and over and she was getting older so it wasn't as impressive anymore. They kicked her out after they did a show in the city and left her here.
"Millie, Millie?" I heard Finn's voice over the chatter of people
"Hm, yeah?" I said snapping out of my memories"You we're spacing out" he slightly smiles
He looks at the door then back at me "are you su-"
"Oh finn, it can't be that bad" I pushed past him and opened the doorThere were people of many sizes doing amazing tricks and acrobatics. Girls were flying in the air on long silks and trapezes, it was beautiful, except for the fact that they were half naked. I turned back towards Finn and saw him looking at the ground, I laughed. Finn rolled his eyes and started walking into the colorful room with me "Well, where is Iris?" I asked looking around at all the talent, "she should be here any second" he said trying not to look around
All of the sudden a bright light lit up a white silk that looked so angelic compared to the other darker colored silks. "We have our very own angel here to preform for all of you tonight!" A mans voice comes on through the speakers filling the room "she is self taught, but is the very best performer here!" I saw a girl dressed in a white silky body suit start to gently climb up the silk very delicately "is that Iris???" I asked Finn "yeah that's her" he said, he seemed defeated and... sad? "I'm going to go get a drink, want one?" He started to walk away, already about to break the promise he had made to not drink anything "Yeah! Get me the strongest alcohol drink there is!" I yelled to him, I wasn't going to waist my 18th birthday away by being sober.
Iris flipped softly in the air performing tricks that were out of this world, as she finished her bare feet touched the floor. I clapped for her and tried to squeeze through all of the people to go see her. "Iris!" Her head shot my way, and her mouth dropped open "Millie! Sadie told me that you ran away, did Finn find you? w-what are you doing here? Did Finn take you here?" She asked now in a silky robe she had draped around herself.
Before I could answer people were crowding around her asking her for pictures and autographs "I'll come find you later! Go have fun!" She shouted in my direction as I lost her in the sea of heads.
I went to go find Finn, I made my way to the big sign that said 'BAR' guessing, that was where he was, I spotted his crazy head of hair and went to sit in the open spot next to him"Hey Finn, what did ya get me?" I asked smiling and excited to have my first 'drink'
"I ordered you one shot, and that will probably do the job— I'm not trying to have to deal with taking you to the hospital to get your stomach pumped on your 18th birthday" he explained, I frowned, not completely knowing what he meant. When the shot arrived I quickly brought it up to my lips and drank the unknown liquid, sure it burned but I didn't want to look stupid in front of Finn. He looked at me with a surprised look on his face, "Well then, I guess we will get you another one". After a while of taking small shots, I definitely felt lightheaded, dizzy, and kinda like I wanted to dance.
