I walked into Caroline's dorm and saw her standing in front of her her mirror. 

Me "hey Care"

She turned to me "Hey, Adi"

I put my dress on Elena's bed and hugged Caroline "how are you?"

Caroline "good, you?""

I nodded "good"

Caroline raised an eyebrow and then sighed.

Me "what?"

Caroline"Look. You're not fooling anyone. I know that you're faking it."

oh shit.

I took a step back " Faking? In what?"

Caroline" Please. It is so obvious.  I appreciate it, I do, but you know I'm on edge because of the whole Tyler-Klaus thing, so you are pretending that watching your sister die was no big deal. "

I nodded " Caroline Forbes, how do you always see right through me?"

Caroline" Look, Adelaide. You don't have to pretend with me, and if you don't want to go tonight, it's all good. I can be bitter, party of one."

My phone started to buzz. I took it out and answered. 

Me "Hello?"

Stefan "it's me, angel"

 I smiled "Hey! I was--heh--just about to call you."

Stefan " Hey. Listen. I need to talk to you and Elena, but I don't want to do it over the phone."

I asked fake worried "what's wrong?"

Stefan "Let's just say it involves Enzo."

I sighed " Oh. Enzo. Uh... Ok. Then maybe we should meet in person. Will you make it to the ball?"

Stefan "I already did the college thing. Twice actually."

I rolled my eyes "you promised, Stefan"

Stefan sighed "for you"

I smiled "i love you"

Stefan "i love you, angel"

I hung up and turned to Caroline who was smiling.
