2.62 "She's Gone"

Night. Hospital. 

Caroline and i ran into the hospital to the reception. 

Caroline "Where is she? Elizabeth Forbes, what room's she in?"

I saw Damon walking to us. I grabbed Caroline's hand and ran with her to Damon. 

Me "Damon!"

Caroline "Damon!"

Damon "Adi, Caroline "

Caroline"what happened? "

Damon " She fell asleep. I couldn't wake her up. They said she slipped into a coma. They said they can make her comfortable."

Caroline shook her head" She's not comfortable. She's dying!"

She walked into the room " I didn't get to say good-bye. I didn't get to say good-bye to my mom."

I sighed. 

Stefan walked to us with the phone on his ear " Tyler, hey, it's Stefan. You might want to head back to Mystic Falls Caroline's mom isn't doing too hot. I'll call you with updates."

He hung up. 

I looked at Damon "What'd the doctors say?"

Damon " Oh, she's stable, but, you know."

I nodded. 

Stefan "How much longer?"

Damon shook his head"Not long. The hospital says she has a DNR, so..."

We heard the EKG beeping 

Damon took a deep breath " I'm gonna get some air."

Then he walked out. 

Stefan looked at me. 

I shook my head and walked into the room .

Caroline was sitting in front of the bed in a chair. 

I kneeled down next to her and put my hand on her thigh. 

Caroline looked at me in tears "I should have been with her."

I shook my head " You didn't know."

Caroline "But I knew she was sick, and I knew it was bad."

I sighed " Care-"

Caroline "I'm her daughter, Adi, okay? I was supposed to give her peace and convince her that I would be OK and thank her for being an amazing mom. God, I don't ever remember the last thing that I said to her. I was supposed to be with her in her final moment."

I took her hand "you still can"

Caroline looked at me in tears and nodded. 

Me "Try to clear your mind."

Caroline nodded" Ok."

Me"Think about your favorite memory of your mom."

Caroline sighed, shaking her head " I don't know. There's too many."

Me " It's ok. It's ok. Just relax. Close your eyes. Open up your mind. We're gonna live in her memories."

Caroline looked at me "We?"

I nodded "I'll always be by your side, Care, no matter what"

She nodded. 

Me " Just take her hand."

She took her mom's hand. 

Caroline cosed her eyes. 

I heard the door open behind me. I turned around and saw Stefan standing there. 

I wiped away my tears. 

Stefan mouthed "you okay?"

I stood up and walked past him out. 

Stefan followed me and closed the door behind him. 

I turned to him and drove my hand through my hair "I'm going to lose her after tonight"

Stefan shook his head "don't say that"

I turned to him "what if i lose her?"

Stefan shook his head "you won't"

I felt tears coming up in my eyes "what if i can't keep my promise? what if i lose my best friend? i can't lose her too"

Stefan walked closer to me and put his hands on my shoulders "Listen, Adelaide, you won't lose her. I promise you i won't let you lose her"

I looked down, hurt "Another promise you can break"

Stefan looked down. 

I walked back into the room and my eyes widened. 

Caroline was sobbing "Mom...Mom.."

Then we heard a beeping.

I let the tears fall. 

Caroline hugged her mother's hand crying "she's gone"

I put a hand over my mouth to cover my sobs. I turned around and hid my head in his chest. 

Stefan hugged me. 

Liz Forbes is gone. She's dead.
