Pairing: Dean X Cas
Au: highschool
Plot: Dean's Father is the owner of a Self defense class so whenever Dean is Home from school he's teaching his own class however a fellow classmate of his starts showing up who is weak.

Start!

I could smell the scent of sweat. It was thick and musty and I'm now sure I prefer the smell of old books over sweat.
I could hear bare feet slapping against the wrestling mats and fists colliding with poorly cushioned hands.
Chills ran up and down my body, what was I thinking?
I can barely lift a bag of cat litter; what makes me think I can take a class that is solely for strength.
Despite my unwavering anxiety I somehow found the nerves to open the door.
Bding
"Hello sir!" A chirpy reply came.
I quickly glanced up to meet a girl with long blonde hair however I couldn't help but gaze back at the floor. "Um um hello, I'm... I'm here to uhh go to my... my class?"
The girl seemed very welcoming and warm like hot chocolate in a snowstorm. "Oh of course! And what's your name?"
"Umm Castiel...Novak.." I trailed off finding the shelving behind her head way more comfortable than eye contact.
"Okay! So your instructor Bobby actually is out for the next few months possibly longer due to injury so one of our young highschool teachers will be taking over your class." I could feel my face start to drop and my stomach clench. "Now don't worry Dean is a very good instructor!"
Dean? Dean Winchester? No, probably not. Dean Winchester is the Football teams Captain he practically rules the school, no he does rule the school.
"Room 4!" She chirped.
My stomach dropped even further when I realized that it was getting closer to me having to go back there. "Yes of course, thank you." I mumbled.
My shoulders slumped and I walked hesitantly towards the door in the back of the office. The door led me to a wide hallway that was lined with doors at the very end of the hallway was a door that read locker room.
I kept walking; swallowing and biting my bottom lip as well. I glanced up and met the sight of an iron 4 pinned to the door.
It felt like the air was trying to smother me. Like oxygen was water and my lungs were an ocean, I was facing complete overflow.
The door opened and there stood Dean Winchester in gray sweatpants and a black short sleeve T-shirt. He was stretching and humming along to Metallica.
I probably looked like an idiot, a weak idiot. My glasses sat thick and tilted on my face.
Dean spun around and his face took on an expression of surprise. "Oh you're Castiel?" Dean took in my features as I nodded and I felt my confidence diminish very quickly.
"If you don't mind me asking why are you taking this class?" Dean asked as he pointed to the corner of the gym for my backpack.
I cringed very slightly at that question, I don't like telling people about my bullies.
"Ummm.." I trailed off praying he'd just lose interest and drop it.
Dean chuckled. "Paranoid?"
I practically cheered at his impatient personality. "Yeah."
Dean smiled a lot softer than I thought he would. "Okay well let's see how hard you punch."
He lead me over to a punching dummy that looked really honestly hard. "Okay have at thee!" He gestured to the dummy.
I glanced between him and the dummy when he gave me a look I smiled nervously. I clenched my fist and drove it into the dummy.
Pain vibrated throughout my entire fist. My eyes instinctively watered, I quickly whipped my hand across my face wiping the tears away before Dean could notice.
"Woah uh you okay, Cas?"
I felt the need to blush since Cas was obviously a nickname The Dean Winchester gave to me, but at the same time the blush was also out of pure and utter embarrassment.
"I'm fine!" I wheezed and gasped.
Dean let a small laugh out before he reached towards my hand. His calloused hands softly gripped at my wrist made my stomach churn. "Well Rocky if I knew you had that much pack in a punch I would have gotten you some wrap." Dean teased as he pushed on the back of my hand.
I chuckled. "I guess I could have told you..."
Dean laughed even more but grabbed some bandages for my fist.
-Timeskip-
It was hard to breathe and smile. It was just hard to keep going at this point. If bullies were airplanes I'd be the airport.
I walked into my bathroom and lifted my sweatshirt. Bruises littered my stomach and ribs. They all ranged from dark black and blues to sad faint grey.
I sighed and lowered my sweatshirt walking slightly hunched.
I was itching to miss my class with Dean which seemed more and more of an excuse for me to catch feelings.
Every time I took a deep breath it felt like a weight crushed further into my chest.
"Cassie if you don't hurry up you're gonna be late for work!" I heard Michael shout.
I rolled my eyes and huffed at him, with of course him not knowing.
Despite my complaint I gathered my self and then left the bathroom, I just think I left my motivation in there.
"Oh come on Cassie it's not that busy today." Michael smiled as he saw my ruffled hair and I-Don't-want-to attitude.
The Novak family ran a small cafe library named "Angel Fall."
"Is Dad already down there?" I grumbled a frown on my face.
Michael nodded. "Yes, but Gabe needs to go to classes and Luci is busy doing god knows what."
"And you're busy playing mom." I pointed out.
Michael gave me a complete stink face. "Whatever. Anywho, would you please just go down to the shop and pitch in for a bit? I'll call Luci and see if he can come and take over, if he can't I'll come and just take the extra two hours."
I couldn't help but quirk my lips just a tad at my older brother. I never met our mom she died during my birth, she never pops up into our conversation at all it's like she's just not there. The only trace of mom I have is Michael.
"Okay." I mumbled. Michael smiled and nodded but suddenly grabbed the right side of my chin so he could examine my face.
Michael dabbed his thumb with his tongue and then rubbed at my cheek. I finally realized what he was doing and my stomach churned.
Michael took a deep breath but nodded letting my face go. "You best get going to the shop or Gabe will be late."
I nodded and ran to the bathroom to throw on some more concealer to cover my bruised cheek, but I found my efforts to have a slight hole in them. I had no more.
The glass tube was completely gone, empty.
I snatched the makeup from my best friend Charlie but she was out of town and I was too scared to go get more.
"Cassie please hurry!" I heard Michael shout.
I cursed under my breath but raced out of the bathroom and to the front door to endure my journey.
It was cold outside. The kind of cold that freezes your lungs but it kinda feels good rather than bad, yeah that kind of cold.
My hands clasped into a fist were stuffed into my pocket to hide from Jack Frost.
The walk to the cafe was short only about 15 minutes but it could still count as a workout.
The bells jingled the anthem of Home to me as I opened the door.
Michael used to tell me that Mom smelt of graham crackers and milk, it was the scent that was warm and comforting.
"Oh Castiel!" I heard someone shout.
I looked to the voice, it was my Dad. "Hi Dad." I rubbed at my cheek trying to hide the bruise.
Of course my Dad wasn't oblivious to his kids. "What you get in a fight with a pole?" He knew what really happened and I could tell he was sad but I was fully aware this was how he made me smile.
"Oh yeah totally and guess what I won!" I laughed joking back.
My Dad laughed as he refilled a man's coffee cup while I started to "suit up." "Well no offense, but I think the pole actually won."
I rolled my eyes. "Yeah yeah." I mumbled.
-Timeskip-
The afternoon was fast.
I spent the day in a rhythmic dance.
I waltzed around the coffee shop and only caught a breath when I was trying to figure out the new coffee machine.
My favorite part of the job was the baking and the smell of old books and apple pie.
It was finally calming down but no one has came to relieve me so I stayed. I'm not sure why because everything was done and every customer was simply reading or working so I cleaned nonexistent dirt and busied myself with nothing.
I heard the bell jingle and fast foot steps but thought nothing of it. "Oh hey Cas!" I glanced up from the task of organizing the workspace I gave myself.
Candy apple green eyes met mine and I immediately glanced down. "Oh uhh hi!" I said a bit too loud.
Dean chuckled he's probably terrified of me. "You work here?" He asked me glancing around his eyes lingering on a young boy who was busying himself in the historical fiction section.
"Umm yes. It's actually family owned." I explained not knowing where to place my eyes quite yet.
"Ooh fun." He said.
I couldn't help but notice how often his eyes came back to the boy. "So is Dean Winchester some type of pedophile now or?"
Dean startled out of his gazing snapped his eyes back to mine. "Of course not! That's my baby brother Sammy!" He explained. I heard the tone of pride in his voice when he mentioned "Sammy", the tone all older siblings get no matter the age gap. I also saw the smile it brought to his lips and the vibe he gave out.
"Really? I never knew you had a younger brother..." I trailed off feeling embarrassed and awkward
"Yep! Sam Winchester; he'll be a freshmen next year." The boy in question looked up and scrunched his nose at us.
The 14 year old walked up to the counter and stood next to Dean. "Did you want me for something?"
Dean shook his head but then quickly nodded. "Actually yeah! Sammy this is Cas, Cas this is Sammy." Dean properly introduced us.
I smiled nervously but held my hand out for him to shake.
"It's Sam." He protested but shook my hand anyway.
"Umm well hello Sam." Sam greeted me back very well mannerly. "You like historical fiction?" Not very many people liked the genre, some did but then again some were practically none.
"Yeah I do. I really like the book David Half Human. I loved learning about the Holocaust it really interests me, as well as the Salem witch trials but the Holocaust was just more interesting I guess?" Sam explained holding up a few other books.
I smiled finding comfort in the boy's rambling. "I loved that book! I will admit I kinda wished Armin would be more understanding and I don't know, knowledgeable but that's alright."
"Right?!" Sam exclaimed. "Like David wants so bad to be apart of Hitler's Youth but he's also like part Jewish so it's hard and Armin is just totally in the dark!"
I laughed and agreed with the boy. "So Sammy are you done or?" Dean asked his tone took a slight irritation kinda vibe.
"Yeah sorry for chatting with your boyfriend." Sam teased as he walked back to the genre section.
Dean rolled his eyes. "Sorry bout that he's a huge nerd." He explained laughing.
"No no it's okay I completely understand!" I rushed fiddling with my fingers. "Besides it was nice talking to someone of my language as my brothers like to call it."
Dean chuckled along with me but suddenly it died down abruptly. He leaned across the counter and turned my face to the right.
I grimaced realizing how careless I was letting him see it. "Cas what happened?!" Dean asked me as he traced it with feather soft touches.
"Nothing it's okay!" I said I could feel myself practically start to spit out excuses in my rambles.
"Cas that's not okay!" I felt the air go from happy to angry and maybe even protective in seconds flat.
My only question was why was he so mad?
"I'm okay!" I tried.
Dean's eyes darkened even more when he looked at my face again. "No you're not! Who did it?!"
I sighed now or never. "Dad Can I leave early Luci or Mikey are coming in about half an hour to help?"
The short man in the back popped his head out from the door and nodded flour in his scruff. "Yeah, Love ya bye!" I mumbled a quick "Love you too" and left Dean and Sam in tow.
"Where are we going?" Sam asked.
I could feel that question was on Dean's mind too his words were just filled with too much poison for him to ask. "I actually don't know." I admitted.
"Come on." Dean muttered angrily to the two of us. We followed reluctantly to an old black 67 Chevy Impala.
Sam climbed into the back seat as if he knew where his brother wanted him without Dean even having to say anything.
I was about to crawl into the back with him when Sam just shook his head and gestured to the front seat, I nodded and hesitantly sat down in the seat.
The car ride was dead silent, the only noise was the sound of a rattle when the heat came on.
We pulled up to a nice little cabin looking house on the edge of town.
Sam was at the front door before I could blink I didn't even see him leave the car. Then the front door was shutting but Dean made no move to get out of the car so I didn't either.
"Why are you taking those classes?" Dean asked me but refused to look at me. Before I could even come up with an excuse he cut me off. "Tell me the truth."
Hesitation bit at my tongue, anxiety quivered in my mouth trying to dish up lies instead of the truth. "Let's just say I'm not really the good kind of popular at school.." I mumbled.
"Rumors?" Dean asked.
I shook my head. "Well yes but most likely not the kind you're thinking of."
There was a pregnant pause. "Are you bullied." Dean insinuated.
I nodded too afraid the tears that I knew were already going to leave my eyes were going to leave sooner.
"Who?" Dean asked calmer than when he asked before.
"Zachariah."
Dean started to fume. "Him?" I nodded unsure of what else to say. "The next time I see him I swear Cas." Dean growled.
Before I could catch them my words tumbled out. "Why do you even care?"
Dean froze it was like his rage just froze up like a sudden freak ice storm just shook his entire world into an arctic freeze. "Why do I care? Because Cas he hurt you!" Dean shouted.
"Dean its not like it's the very first time." I countered. "And I doubt it'll be the last."
"Not if I have anything to say about it-."
I cut him off quickly before he could blow up again. "Dean you know what that's gonna look like? King of the school Dean Winchester defending bullied outcast Castiel Novak against Zachariah? Rumors are going to spread!"
"So?!" Dean shouted. "I don't care Cas! He is hurting you."
"You will be called my boyfriend." I shouted back.
"GOOD." Dean yelled.
Everything froze. We both didn't move or breathe we held our breaths.
Dean was the first daredevil to breathe. He took the breathe like he was just about to climb Mount Everest and he knew this ugly world only gets prettier up close. "I'd be your boyfriend if it meant you were safe and happy. I'd do anything for you Cas... I really like you."
My words were caught in my chest. "I like you too..." I trailed off.
Dean smiled so brightly I thought his face would split. "Can I?" I nodded quickly.
His lips were soft and full. His hand cupping the back on my neck to ensure I wasn't going anywhere was cold.

But his protectiveness was like a warm blanket in the middle of snow.

So safe and warm.

And forever.
