Day before 9th Grade

"We should go into PacSun!" I rolled my eyes. "Maya I'm on a budget I only have enough money to buy one outfit and besides, one thing at PacSun equals a whole outfit." She huffed. "Fine lets just go in and take a look who needs money anyway we can buy with our eyes." I laughed. "Whatever works for you girly." We walked in hearing chill R&B playing in the store. 

I hope I don't find anyone I know from school here, a reason I don't like coming to the mall. "Oh my god Samira this is so cute!" She shoved a two-piece in my face. It was a matching black crop top hoodie with sweats. I scrunched up my nose. "It's not that cute it's okay."

"Sam stop killing my excitement." She gave me a playful glare and I laughed. "Look at those Disney Vans they're pretty cute too." I said checking the price tag. They were on sale for $39. I asked for a pair in my size and tried them on.

I purchased them and so far the only thing I've bought. On the other hand, Maya had at least 3 bags full of clothes already.

We were walking out on our way to the other side of the mall enjoying the fast food smells. "Okay so before tomorrow we should get our nails done and als-"

As we were walking by the food court I saw Grayson sitting with some friends.  I proceeded to walk faster completely tuning out Maya. He better not see me here I swear. My heart began beating faster and I grew nervous.

"Sam slow down!" I cringed at her words hoping none of the guys heard until my name was called.

"Hey Samira!" Cole yelled.

Oh no.

I turned around and gave Cole and only Cole a wave. At the corner of my eye, I saw Grayson turn to look at me and occasionally laughing at some of his friends jokes. I finally turned to him and he swirled his tongue around the inside of his cheek then bit his lip. We looked at each other in the eyes for what felt like forever.

Then.

He chuckled and shook his head.

I felt my cheeks blush.

What was he laughing at?

He then looked down at his plate of fries and ate one before engaging in one of his friends conversations.

I turned to Maya feeling annoyed. "Hurry up lets go." In no time were out of the food court.

Maya turned to me and sighed. "You and Grayson are very awkward." I rolled my eyes feeling irritated for whatever reason.

"You think so?"

"But why? He's really only that way around you-"  She then gasped grabbing my shoulder.

Oh boy.

"Do you and him have a thing!" She yelled. I looked at her wide eyed. 

"Shut up shut up! I don't, I hate him dude. He's such as asshole and likes everyone in the school who cake on makeup and have big tits." Maya gave me a stern look. "You are very pretty and have normal sized tits, bigger than that popular Janel girl."

I laughed pushing her a little. "No I don't but for real listen, I don't like him, am I clear?"
Maya nodded with a smirk. "Yes." 

"Stop smirking."

"Why?"

"You better not say anything about this to anyone on your snapchat."

Maya grinned.

"I won't."

"Whatever lets walk over to H&M I want to find a hoodie because I need some comfortable clothes." I speed walked with Maya earning us some weird stares. 

As we were making out way over to the store. Maya needed to go to the bathroom. I waited on a small bench nearby. I was scrolling on my phone and I heard someone clear their throat. I looked up and my eyes grew wide.

"Oh hey Grayson?"

He walked up to me without saying anything and leaned on the wall. I tried to shake off my nervousness by tapping my foot. He's just a boy in my class. Calm it down.

"So-"

"Hey weren't you with Maya earlier."

Rude.

Wait why is he here anyway?

You know I'm not asking that.

"Weren't you with Ethan and Cole?" I asked. He nodded as well. "Yeah they wanted to go over to Game Stop for some stupid game.

I scrunched my brows in confusion. "Don't you like video games?"

"No it's a waste of time. I mean some are fun but I prefer Candy crush those type of games where you are actually using your brain." I laughed lightly. "Oh yeah. Do you like Mario kart?"

"Hell yeah, you?" I smiled. "Yup."  He cracked me a small smile and then slid his hands into his Jeans pocket.

"Hey there Grayson." Maya popped up from behind scarring me making Grayson laugh. "Did you see her face? she was so off guard." He kept on laughing and I felt my cheeks turn red. "Dude Grayson shut up."

"You get scared to easily Sam, anyway I'm gonna head back see you around." He turned and walked away. I starred at him. He was wearing a plain black hoodie, ripped dark blue jeans and white vans. I'll admit it. I loved his casual style.

"I see you starring. You like him don't you." I turned around looking at Maya and I sighed. "It's pretty obvious to you now so yeah, I guess I do."

"How long has this been going on?"

She sat next to me on the bench placing her bags down.

I looked down at mine. "Four, five years or so."

Maya grabbed my hand and played with my ring. "You know I've noticed this since the 7th grade, I just never told you." I smiled and chuckled. "Wow I really thought no one knew."

Maya giggled. "It was sort of obvious, the way you'd stare at him during Mrs. Pam's class." I felt my cheeks burn up again.

"Sam he has a girlfriend, I hope you're aware. I don't want you to be all over him if he has a special someone." I nodded. His girlfriend was very pretty and nice, I could never have something against her. "Yeah, it's never going to happen anyway so doesn't matter, you forget your high school crushes eventually and never see them again, it's just how it works."

Maya gave me a small smile.

"Your right you don't need him or anyone right now anyway,  you're doing just fine on your own."
