The sound of the front door creaking open broke the silence of the evening. I turned toward the noise, my feet carrying me slowly, cautiously, to the entryway. But then I stopped, frozen in place.

You were there. And you weren't alone.

A girl stood beside you, her face unfamiliar, her presence unexpected. For a moment, the world felt distant, blurred by confusion. But I didn't let her presence hold me back—I focused on you, on the look in your eyes that seemed almost unreadable.

I stepped forward to help you, my instinct driving me closer, but you raised your hand. Your voice was firm, sharp—words I wasn't prepared to hear. "Move away," you said, and the distance between us grew heavy.

I faltered, confusion twisting its way through me. "What's going on?" I asked, but the question lingered unanswered in the air, suspended between us like an invisible wall.
