The doctor walked in, his presence calm yet serious, carrying the weight of news I wasn't entirely ready for. He said I'd need to stay in the hospital for at least another week—they still had to monitor me, to ensure the transplant was working as it should.

A transplant. The word settled in my mind like an anchor, pulling me back to the accident. He explained what had happened—the impact had caused my rib to fracture, and one of the broken pieces had punctured my heart. A chill ran through me as I realized just how close I'd come to losing everything.

The only way to save me had been a heart transplant. That fact was both terrifying and humbling. I owed my life to someone—a stranger whose generosity had given me a second chance. The doctor said it had all been remarkably swift; they had found a donor almost immediately, something that rarely happens.

As I lay there, staring at the ceiling, gratitude mixed with uncertainty swirled through my thoughts. I was alive—that much I knew. But everything else, everything about what comes next, felt uncharted and fragile.
