Bad taste rap music played loud in the school bus. Students talked, if not yelled, talking about stupid, boring and... Ordinary stuff. Jim sat in the front, on the left side, while all the others were in the back, that way he had more chance that the students would leave him alone.
Tired of hearing the so called "music", the young man searched through his bag and grabbed his Walkman with his headphones. Putting them over his head, he pressed the "play" button.
The Thieving Magpie resonated smoothly in his ears, and soon he forgot about the sounds of the environment around him. He closed his eyes and his lips pulled up into a small grin. The movement of the moving bus relaxed him and he instantly felt better.
It went like this for some time, after the school bus suddenly slowed down and stopped in front of a house. Jim opened his eyes again, confusion read across his face. He knew the road to the school very well, and he was certain they never stopped there before.
He looked out the window, to see why or for who they were stopping. He didn't see anything outside and, still confused, slid his right headphone behind his ear.
Then he heard it. The doors of the bus opened, and when he turned his head, his eyes were greeted with a beautiful and smart (h/c) haired girl. She looked around, trying to find a place to sit, and soon the students turned their attention toward her, already starting to pick on her. She seemed emotionless, not sad nor angry. She almost looked bored.
"Hey, look! Isn't that a nice surprise! The weirdo decided to join us!" a student said, sarcasm dripping from his voice.
The others laughed and chuckled.
Jim clenched his fist and gritted his teeth.
"Yeah, look at her. All alone and pathetic. Freak." another one spat.
She looked a bit more annoyed now and didn't really know what to do. All places were taken and surely no other students will want to sit with her-
"You can sit with me, if you want."
The girl turned her head to her right, a bit stunned and surprised, and her gaze met dark and big brown eyes. The boy looked a bit hesitant, but genuinely nice towards the girl.
"Thanks."
Seeing him pull his bag away from next to him on the seat, she sat next to him, putting her bag on her lap.
Jim may have looked calm on the outside, but in the inside, he felt butterflies in his stomach, a feeling he couldn't really explain. He was eager to talk with the intriguing girl, and perhaps he was a bit nervous, still expecting a bad reaction coming from her. He fiddled nervously with the hem of his jacket, looking down.
She turned her head to him, and noticed the Walkman resting on his lap.
"What are you listening to?" She asked.
The boy looked up to her, and she shot him a smile. A sincere one. Not sarcastic or mean.
"Uh-um... I'm a..." he stuttered. "Um, it's called... The Thieving Magpie, by uh-"
