Beatrice just bought a new android phone. She misplaced her former phone. Although she got a new phone,she felt bad for losing her previous phone because of the contents embedded in the previous phone. She lost all her contacts,her favourite apps,music and study documents. Nevertheless,she can't wait to show her new phone to her friends at school. The next day was gloomy as usual which is typical for mondays. The lecturers for the day also contributed to the gloominess of the day with their dry lectures but that did not bother Beatrice because her new phone kept her busy. After the last lecture of the day,her three close friends Lola,Bummi and Nnena came to chat with her. Her friends saw the new phone and started to hail Beatrice. She told them to keep their voices down so that they won't attract unwanted attention. Lola said silently
" Beatrice you bought a new phone and did not tell anybody. It's okay,its alright"
Beatrice chuckled and said
"Haba,it's not like that na. I misplaced my previous phone with everything inside it including all my contacts. When I bought this phone,I had nobody's contact at all. So I am sorry I did not call any one of you. I will collect the contact of everyone"
Bummi then said
"Okay,we understand. You are looking beautiful oh,this last holiday has good effect on everybody."
Beatrice laughed silently and said
"Ah Bummi you never change. You and all this false hailing."
Nnena collected the phone from Beatrice and said
"Wait,wait,wait oh. Is this not Samsung S8. The latest of the Samsung S series. Beatrice is a big girl now oh."
Beatrice looked at Nnena and noticed something different about her. Beatrice said to Nnena
"Fine girl,I like your new contact lens. It fits you."
Nnena blushed and said with a low voice
"Thank you,Queen Bea."
There was no password on Beatrice's phone so Nnena unlocked the phone and after exploring the phone for a minute,she said
" Wow you have nice apps. I will collect some especially the beauty app."
Beatrice chuckled and said
"Thanks,some of the apps came with the phone and I downloaded some. I will send it to you when we get to the hostel."
Beatrice,Lola,Nnena and Bummi have been friends since year one. Now, they are in year three of their various course. Their friendship became stronger as a result of them staying in the same hostel since year one. After their long chat about Beatrice's new phone and how each of them spent their holiday,they decided to go to their hostel. After fifteen minutes,they got to their hostel. Lola unlocked the main gate. Each of them moved towards their apartment. When Beatrice got to her door,she realized something strange. Her door was unlocked. She pushed the door slowly and entered her apartment quietly. She located and flipped the light switch to illuminate her apartment. She looked around and saw no one. Everything was exactly the way she left it. Suddenly the door closed and something grabbed her from behind. She looked down and saw someone's hand wrapped around her waist. She could feel the person's breath on her neck. The person whispered into her ears
"I want your flesh and bones."
Beatrice hissed and said
"Really,really? Is that your way of greeting me? I am disappointed."
After talking,the person's grip weakened and she broke free. She turned around and hissed again. The person said with a sober voice
"I am sorry. I thought you love surprises but nevertheless you were suppose to complete our special love slogan."
Beatrice replied almost immediately
"What stupid slogan are you talking about and how did you open my door?"
The person said with a disappointed tone
"Seriously,have you forgotten? I will say I want your flesh and bones and you will reply me by saying you can have it for I am the flesh of your flesh and bones of your bones. Concerning how I opened your door,I thought I told you that I was part of the thieves in the tales of Aladdin and the forty thieves. So there is no door or lock I can't open."
Beatrice rolled her eyes and said
"Haha,very funny. Hassan I don't like what you did. I don't like you breaking into my apartment and scaring me like a deranged rapist. One more thing please change that your special slogan,it sounds kinda creepy."
The person was her boyfriend Hassan. Hassan then moved closer and said
"I am very sorry. I just wanted to surprise you na...
Beatrice replied
" So you cannot surprise me with car key or something special like a normal boyfriend abi? Sometimes I wonder why I am into you."
Hassan smiled, pointed to his crouch and said
"We both know why you are into me. Okay,okay on a serious note,I am deeply sorry for my behaviour. I promise it won't happen again. No more surprises. Concerning our special slogan,I thought you liked it because I coined it from your religion's Holy Bible."
Maintaining an angry face,Beatrice said
"Please stick to your Holy Quran."
Hassan chuckled and replied in pidgin english
"Shey you sabi arabic ni? How you go take complete the slogan for arabic?"
Beatrice hissed and dropped her bag on the couch. Hassan moved closer to her and lifted up her face with his right hand. He pouted in an attempt to make a cute sorry face,looked into her eyes and said with a funny voice
"Queen Bea, I am sorry na. Please forgive me your highness. I promise I won't do it again and if I do,feel free to send me to the wall to serve as a crow of the night's watch."
Beatrice effort to maintain an angry face failed as she smiled and said
"Hassan you are not alright oh. I am very serious here and yet you are referring to game of thrones. "
Hassan smiled and said
" I am deeply sorry Khaleesi."
He then leaned forward and kissed her. At first,Beatrice tried to fight against the kiss but later gave in. She kissed him back passionately. As they were engrossed in kissing each other,Nnena entered the room without knocking. Nnena was shocked but not surprised when she saw Beatrice and Hassan kissing. Beatrice and Hassan stopped kissing and looked at Nnena. Nnena raised her eyebrow and said
"Hello Hassan,sorry for disturbing you lovebirds. Beatrice please can you give me your phone,I want to send some apps."
Without hesitation,Beatrice removed the phone from her bag and handed it to Nnena. Nnena smiled and left Beatrice apartment. Hassan said
"I like your new phone oh. My babe is a big girl."
Beatrice looked at him and asked
"Why were you not in class today? I searched everywhere but did not find you."
Hassan moved towards Beatrice and sat on the couch. He dragged Beatrice hand and positioned her to seat on his laps. He then looked at her and said
"First day lectures are always dry and boring,so I decided not to come."
Beatrice leaned towards him and with a seductive face she said
"For the first time in your life,you are right about something."
Hassan moved his face upward and locked lips with Beatrice. As they were kissing,they heard a loud scream. They stopped kissing immediately and looked towards the window. Beatrice then said
"That sounds like Nnena. Why is she screaming like that?"
They heard another scream and this time,it was louder. Beatrice and Hassan walked towards the door and moved outside. Bummi and Lola also came outside after hearing the scream. Everybody moved towards Nnena apartment. Suddenly,there was another scream from Nnena's apartment. Hassan ran towards the door to open it but the door did not open. Hassan tried several times to open the door but all his efforts failed. Lola suggested that they should all force the door open. They followed Lola's advice and forced the door open. The light of the apartment started to fluctuate. Everybody started to shout Nnena's name as they entered into the apartment. There was no response. As they moved further into the apartment,
they saw trails of blood. They followed the trail to the bathroom. What they saw in the bathroom made them shiver with fear. They found Nnena on the bathroom floor drenched in blood. Lola shouted the name of Jesus repeatedly. Bummi almost threw up when she saw Nnena's body covered with blood. Suddenly, Nnena's finger twitched. Hassan faced Beatrice and said
"I think she is still alive. Let us help her."
As they moved closer to Nnena,they noticed something horrifying. Nnena's eyes were no where to be found;her eye sockets were empty. Bummi screamed,ran out of the bathroom and vomited on the floor of the apartment. Suddenly,Nnena started to cough out blood. Beatrice said with faint optimism
"She is still alive. I think she is trying to say something."
Beatrice was right but Nnena's words was not audible because of the blood in her mouth. Hassan knelt down without considering the pool of blood staining his cloth. He then put his ear near her mouth to hear what she was trying to say. He heard her saying
"Con..con..contact lens make up phone. Contact lens make up phone. Contact lens make up pho..phone."
Hassan looked up and said
"I think she is trying to say contact lens make up phone. Do you guys know what that means?"
Beatrice pointed to her phone near Nnena's body and said
"I think she is trying to say contact lens,make up and my phone. I saw her wearing contact lens after class but now her eyes are gone. Something strange is happening."
Lola then said with tears in her eyes
"I think we should call the police or school security now."
Beatrice picked up her phone from the pool of blood. She then wiped off the blood from the screen of her phone. As she was about to call the university emergency number,the Glo network signal that was available not long ago disappeared. Lola brought out her own phone to call the emergency number since she was using another network provider. As she was also about to call the same emergency number,her phone caught fire. Lola screamed and tossed her burning phone away. Suddenly,the bathroom door closed locking Hassan,Beatrice and Lola in the bathroom. Bummi was the only one in the apartment. Hassan tried to open the bathroom door but the door did not open. Lola moved closer to the bathroom door and said with a loud voice
"Bummi,Bummi can you hear me? Are you there?"
Bummi answered from the other side of the door
"Yes,I can hear you. What happened to the bathroom door. Why is it not opening? I am scared oh. Hassan break the door oh. Please I am scared."
Suddenly,Bummi felt someone's hand on her shoulder. She turned back and saw a naked old woman standing in front of her. She screamed at the top of voice. Beatrice asked with a loud voice
"Bummi,why are you screaming? What is happening over there?"
Bummi answered with fear
"Guys,there is an old woman standing in front me and she is naked"
The old woman closed her eyes and all of a sudden,a third eye appeared on her forehead. As soon as Bummi saw the third eye, she became paralyzed. The old woman opened her two normal eyes. The old woman said with an eerie voice
"Why? Why are you doing this to your self?"
Hassan shouted from the bathroom
"Bummi,Bummi what is happening? Bummi answer na! Hey,Old naked woman,what are you doing in this apartment and why are you asking creepy questions? Leave Bummi alone or we will call the police!!!"
The old lady ignored Hassan and said in her former eerie voice
"Why are you doing this to your self? Your black natural skin was without flaws but you decided to destroy it by using bleaching cream. Now you are looking different when compared to your natural self. You have gone against the natural order and now,you must be punished."
The old naked woman then walked towards Bummi and touched Bummi's right arm. Bummi heart beat increased drastically. Suddenly Bummi started to scream. Hassan's fear fueled his anger that he broke down the bathroom door with one kick. They saw Bummi but did not see any naked old woman. Bummi was screaming and rolling on the floor. Suddenly,Bummi's skin started to melt like plastic subjected to fire. Her bones became visible as her skin melts from her toes upwards. Her screaming intensified as her melting body started to emit steam. Hassan tried to touch her but quickly removed his hands because she was literally hot. Beatrice and Lola watched in fear as their friend's skin melted away. After sometime,Bummi stopped moving. Hassan touched her wrist to check her pulse but realised that she has given up the ghost. He looked up with a sad expression and said
"I think she is dead. I think she is dead guys. I can't feel her pulse. I thought my aunt was crazy when she said my uncle was killed by a tuber of yam. After witnessing this,I think I believe her."
Lola and Beatrice started to cry uncontrollably. Hassan then said
"Let's get out of here and go to the security office to inform the school."
Hassan,Beatrice and Lola ran towards the door. Suddenly,something pulled Lola's hair from behind. She looked back and saw an old naked woman pulling her hair. She screamed and kicked the old woman but the old woman did not let go of her hair. The old woman started to levitate. Lola felt pain like never before as the old woman lifted her with her hair. The old woman said with an eerie voice
"Why are you doing this to yourself? Why are you not satisfied with the length and texture of your natural hair. Your natural hair was without flaws but you decided to add Brazilian hair. Now you are looking different when compared to your natural self. You have gone against the natural order and now,you must be punished."
Lola cried out and said
"Please old woman,don't kill me. I promise I will cut it off right now. I promise I will start to plait all back or heavenly king from now on. Please don't kill me. I am the only child of my parents."
The old woman laughed and said
"My child,it is too late to be sorry. I feel your pain but this is the only way for you to learn from your mistake. You have to die for you to learn from your errors."
Hassan said with anger reflecting in is voice
"If she dies,how will she now learn from her mistake?"
The old woman chuckled and said
"You know nothing,my son."
Beatrice moved closer to the floating old woman and realised that she was familiar. Beatrice pointed to the old woman and said
"I remember you. You were the one who sold this phone to me at computer village. She told me to try the make up app to bring out my true beauty."
Hassan hissed and said
"Beatrice,so out of everybody selling phone in computer village,you decided to buy phone from an old woman."
Beatrice looked at Hassan with anger and said
"Hassan shut up. I think I understand what Nnena was trying to say. Nnena must have opened the make up app on my phone and as a result unleashed this old witch . She must have removed Nnena eyes after seeing her contact lens."
All of a sudden,the old woman dragged Lola and tossed her against the wall like a barbie doll. The impact of Lola's head against the wall caused Lola's head to split open. Lola's blood beautified the tiles of the apartment. Beatrice fear intensified to to the extent that it affected her breathing and heartbeat. Hassan collected the phone from Beatrice and said
"Beatrice,if what you said is correct,then we must delete that makeup app now."
Hassan then unlocked the phone,located the app and uninstalled the make up app. Immediately,the old naked woman vanished into thin air. Hassan grabbed Beatrice hand and ran out of the apartment. They darted out of the gate towards the school security building . When they got to the school security building. They told the security officers everything they experienced but the officers did not believe them. The officers thought they were on drugs or maybe drunk. One security officer decided to follow them back to their hostel. When they got to the hostel,they moved towards Nnena's apartment and entered into the apartment. What they saw terrified the security officer,Hassan and Beatrice. They saw the bodies of Lola,Bummi and Nnena floating in the air. Suddenly,there was a very bright light. The floating bodies dropped to the ground slowly. All of a sudden,the bodies started to vibrate violently. The security guard started to sweat profusely due to fear.After some time, the bodies stopped vibrating. Suddenly,the bodies started to sneeze. Hassan and Beatrice moved near the bodies. As they drew closer,they realised that Nnena's eyes were back,Bummi's body was covered with skin and Lola's head was normal without any injury. All of sudden, Lola opened her eyes and said
"Am I alive or are you guys dead?"
Nnena also opened her eyes and shouted
"I can see! I can see again! I thought I died. I was really sure that I died.How come I am alive?"
Everybody turned to Bummi to see if she was alive but her body did not move. Beatrice happiness turned into sadness gradually. She sat down near Bummi body and said with tears in her eyes
"This is all my fault.Now my friend is dead because of me. I caused all this."
A voice replied her saying
"No,don't blame your self. I am the one that started to use bleaching cream. That was my decision not yours."
The voice was familiar;it was Bummi's voice. Beatrice turned around and hugged Bummi. The security officer said stammering
"If I tell anybody ab...about this in the office,nob..nobod..nobody will believe me. Since every..everbod.. everybody is alive,I don't see the need to report this. I will leave you guys now."
Hassan touched his chin and said
"Wow,I now understand what the old woman was trying to say when she said you have to die for you to learn from your errors."
Lola chuckled and said
"Will the hairdresser still be open by this time? I have to remove this brazilian hair now"
Nnena quickly removed her contact lens. Bummi asked Beatrice
"Are they selling anti bleaching or reverse bleaching cream?"
Beatrice smiled and said
"I don't know about that oh."
Everybody was happy. Hassan moved closer to Beatrice and kissed her. After Beatrice and Hassan finished kissing,Lola jokingly said
"Guys,does it mean I can't put on make up and apply lipstick again?"
