Vivian hates her father because she did not get to know him.  He left her and her mother when she was a baby. She was raised by a single mother. Another thing Vivian hates was the idea of going to boarding school .  She thought boarding school was full with unnecessary struggles and annoying sets of rule. When she was about to enter senior secondary school,her mum decided to put her in boarding school.  She was so angry that she threatened to disown her mother. Her mother ignored her threat and paid for her boarding house fees. The first three weeks for Vivian in boarding house was just exactly the way she predicted. She had to wake up very early everyday for her to take her bath on time. The food was irritating and disgusting to Vivian. The mandatory prep and reading time was just unnecessary and annoying. As time went by, Vivian started to make friends. Vivian’s friends made boarding school less boring and interesting. Taking her bath early became easy because her friends would always wake her on time. Vivian started to tolerate the food. After her failure in her first midterm test, Vivian had no choice but to use the prep and reading time judiciously. Every lunch break was an avenue for Vivian and her two  best friends to gossip and talk about everything. Today's lunch break was not an exception. Vivian’s best friends sat with her as they ate their lunch. Vivian said

  “Guys do you know that my rich neighbor that i keep telling you guys about?”

   Katherine,one of the best friends replied

    “Of course. The one that taught you how to draw.”

  Vivian then said

    “Yes. My mum told me the most bizarre news about her. My mum told me that she recently delivered twins. Nobody knew she was pregnant because she did not appear to be pregnant when I saw her during the midterm break. It's just strange.”

   Katherine said

  “That’s really weird but I am happy for her. I hope she knows their father.”

     Funke, her second best friend said

       “I have an observation and I plan to write to the principal about it.”

    Katherine, hissed and said in pidgin

     “Funke don come again. U dey always observe everything.”

Funke ignored Katherine and said

  “I realized that the meat served to an athlete is always bigger than the food served to a regular student. That's pure cheating.  We paid the same school fees.”

Katherine laughed and said

   “Funke,you never cease to amaze me.  The students in the athletic team deserve the special treatment. They have been winning medals for the school.  Our school has been winning the state sport competition since when we were in JSS 1. Please let them enjoy themselves.”

   Minutes later, Funke said quietly

  “Guys, what I am about to say may sound crazy but I need you guys to believe me. I think bush babies exist.Yesterday night, i went to use the toilet. As I was using the toilet, I heard babies crying. It was very scary.”

 Vivian and Katherine started to laugh uncontrollably. Vivian then said

   “Funkeee, apostle must hear about this. You are very paranoid. There is nothing like bush baby. It's just in your head jor. This girl is funny oh.”
