In the meantime, Laguna had found another cave where to hide. There he had remained for a couple of hours, sitting and waiting for the rain to stop. The waiting, however, had made him feel sleepy and so, it was not after some time he had already fallen asleep. He thought he could rest for a longer period of time but the cold was a bother for the rest of the night. He was not prepared to stay a day outdoors, after all, he had been comfortably sleeping on his bed the night before. He also considered the sorceress may be behind that trick or that maybe even the time he had spent with Raine and Ellone had not been but a dream...maybe he had died after falling from that rift and he was now in the afterlife. If the afterlife was to be that cold, he would not want it, he thought, and then shook off those crazy ideas. He had to find those two again, he said, they had to be somewhere close. But before them there was Squall who he was planning to go looking for as soon as the sun arises. He couldn't be that far away.

In the morning, he was woken up by a breeze. As he opened up his eyes, he was glad to find out the rain had stopped. He picked up his weapon, his trusty machinegun, and left the cave to search for Squall. Yet there was one little problem: he had no idea where he was and the forest was so dense, it was impossible to guide himself by using the sun, not that he could either. He decided to walk around, eventually, they would find each other, wouldn't they? He traveled through the forest, saying Squall's name out loud; he picked up some fruits from the trees and ate; had he ever been so lonely before? He disliked being left alone. It was boring, he thought, not having someone to talk to.

The hours passed and he noticed he had been walking in circles all the time. There was something mysterious about those woods. They should be haunted! No doubt it was a dream! He concluded. He was about to take another step when he suddenly heard a strange noise coming from the east. It was the sound of metal crashing as if someone was carrying many metallic objects that were clashing against each other. He looked into the distance, hiding behind a bush and found a tall man who was walking with caution, holding many weapons: a bow, an ax, a sword, a lance, knives and was clad in armor. An assassin? Maybe. He was not going to fool around with him.

"(Let's be very quiet)" he thought "(I'll just walk away, in complete silence, and I'll be...)"

He had not ended talking to himself when he took a step and involuntarily hit a rock which went rolling all the way, crashing with everything it found on its way. Of course, the noise alerted the man on the road and he went running. Laguna, on the other hand, hid behind a tree and waited until he could not hear the weapons anymore. Once he felt safe, he breathed deeply and went out of his hideout just for his surprise to find out that the man had also hid on the other side of the tree and they both ended up encountering. Rapidly, Laguna stepped back and so did the tall man who picked up a sword on one of his hands and an ax on his other hand and pointed at him with one of the weapons. The man with the machinegun had not had time to react so he simply raised his hands in a sign of surrender.

"Who are you?!" the man asked him

Laguna was to answer but he was interrupted by another question.

"Are you one of us?! Respond! Wild rose!"

"Wild rose?" Laguna exclaimed confused

"You are with the emperor of Palamecia!!" the young man accused him
