By the morning, rain had stopped and many replicas had followed the earthquake of the night before. Because of it, they had barely rested and so, the idea of traveling through the forest once again had become very detestable. However, Laguna was cheerful as always and pushed the others to keep going. They had to find a town to stay, and he was still to search for Squall. The four, then, left the cave and for their surprise, the forest was no longer alive. There was nothing anymore but a barren land, a shriveled tree trunk here and there, but aside from it, only the dreaded ground.
They had decided to follow the river's trail; however, it had disappeared. On the other side, in the sky, various spheres huge dark spheres had popped out of nowhere. For some minutes; they presented no harm; but just sometime after, monsters began falling down from them, surrounding the warriors of light and forcing them to pick up their weapons and fight them, at least to draw them back and find an opening to run away. Yuna was mostly concern of Cecil; he was overdoing it, jumping in front of the others when they were attacked; defending them at the cost of his own safety even though he was in no condition to be doing it. She could not understand why; she could only remember Firion's words the day before, when he and Laguna spoke after the earthquake...
"So, you won't ask them about the wild rose password?" Laguna had asked Firion on that night
"I don't think I need to" he had answered him
"Why not?! You trust them?"
"They are not bad people... she is a white mage, and he is a paladin"
"A paladin?"
"Yes... I've heard legends of them... sacred knights who have vowed to defend others no matter what... I bet he must have been injured while protecting her... people like that can't be evil..."
A sacred knight committed to protecting others... maybe part of his motivation was in that; however, if a person like him could not be bad, why would his best friend want to murder him? She was in the middle of that reasoning when she heard Firion speaking to Cecil, his voice sounded annoyed. He was scolding him for what he was doing; he made it clear he understood his mission but that if he was to cover him again, he would have to take some measures in that respect.
"Stop playing hero and stand back!" he told him "I'll deal with these monsters by myself, you are in no condition to be fighting, understood?!"
Yuna thought he was kind of rude, talking to Cecil in such a tone; however, it may have been necessary to pull him back. Firion was a very curious man, she thought: he seemed distant; he would never look straight into her eyes, and would stutter any time he wanted to speak to her; however, when talking with the other two, he would sound so intimidating. His stance was so heroic, and yet his clear brown eyes would frighten anyone who happened to be caught by his sight. Contrary to him, Laguna was more of an easy-going guy; joking around; playing around; and yet backing Firion on his opinion. He was not that rough with words though; he would find the way to make a joke out of everything and in the middle of them, he would demand for his opinion to be taken seriously...mainly the reason why it was never taken seriously. In conclusion, Cecil had no chance but to lower his head and step back. He went with her and apologized once again for not being able to do much. She just told him whatever he was doing was enough, and could not help gazing at his injured arm once again: it was wrapped in bandages, and he could not yet move it, not even his hand. She wished she could say something else to him, yet, she simply could not find the right words; after all, she had more questions than answers, and could not entirely comprehend this "path-of-the-paladin" he was following.
Laguna and Firion managed to force the monsters to retreat, and took the chance to advance. Cecil and Yuna followed them. They ended up in a small town where no monsters had arrived yet. They took advantage of that and searched for a place to finally get some rest. They knocked at some of the doors, receiving no answer. At last, they knocked at one with very curious designs in the walls, this time, they heard a voice... the voice of a kid that spoke to them: "If you are warriors of chaos, leave!!"
