No matter how many times they did it, Bast couldn't help but feel a twinge of sadness and guilt from moving. Even if they hadn't lived in a certain spot for long, the event always seemed to hurt. From the goodbyes to the packing to the apparation, it all hurt. And as she reached out for her brother's hand, she couldn't help but blink back tears. She had been forced to leave many friends behind in the span of five years, but it hurt her the most to leave Lily Evans behind. She couldn't explain why it just did. None of the explanations that she had constructed over the last few hours had fit— from her thinking it was because she was stuck with Severus, or because she felt bad about Lily and Petunia's damaged relationship.
Her thoughts were cut off with a pop and twist of discomfort. She hadn't realized how hard she had squeezed her eyes shut, or that she had even closed them in the first place, but as she opened them she saw a new environment.
The walls were a serene shade of blue, which to Bast was a much better change from peeling grey paint that exposed the brick. The large floor to ceiling windows allowed the sunrise to come streaming in. Bast couldn't help but stop to admire the way the pink light reflected over the lake outside.
Lyall was the first to stand, and as he did he smiled himself. "Welcome! Welcome to Eradell Manor."
Remus stood next, cautiously making his way over to Lyall. He stood there, almost hugging his father, and looked around.
"I believe that our new home calls for a celebration. They said that there was wine stored in the pantries, so let us all go and find them!"
"Lyall, for goodness sakes, it's barely seven o'clock in the morning! I'd think that coffee would be a better plan."
"Coffee and wine?"
Hope grimaced. "I don't— well, I guess if you're happy. Sometimes I don't think I'll ever understand you." With that, she laughed as her husband kissed her on the cheek. Bast and Remus both scrunched their noses up.
"Ewwwww! Dad kissed Mum!" The two shouted together.
Lyall leaned in and kissed Hope again. "Like that?", he questioned. The children erupted into more disgusted noises.
Lyall laughed a little and kissed his wife over and over again, with a chorus of noises in the background.
"Pa! That's gross!"
Lyall just laughed. "Okay, okay! Let's figure out where everything is. Then I'll know where I can kiss the greatest thing to ever happen to me."
Remus and Bast ran off together, ready to explore.
"I found the ballroom!", called Remus.
"Yep, that's a ballroom!" Bast shouted, trying to be louder than her brother.
They ran around, continuing like that until they had discovered every room they could find. They found the ballroom, the parlour, the dining hall, the breakfast nook, the library, the owlery, the greenhouse, the gardens, and lastly, the bedrooms. Remus immediately claimed the green bedroom, which left Bast with the light blue room.
Lyall came climbing up the stairs and slowly cracked open the door, entering Remus' room as silently as possible. He tiptoed over to the bed, sneaking up on the two who were chatting away excitingly on the bed.
"BOO!" Lyall screamed, causing Bast and Remus to jump.
"Papa!" Remus shrieked.
"Pa? Why would you do that?" Inquired Bast
Lyall laughed. "You guys missed an entire floor of the house! Weren't you two wondering where the kitchens were?"
"Actually, in all the excitement we forgot about those..."
