Close by Death Mountain...
(Reader's p.o.v.)
I took a stroll with Zelda and Daruk along with the two guards behind. I walk on Zelda's right and Daruk on her left. I wanted to explore a bit more around Hyrule and so I went with Zelda when she offered for me to come to my surprise. Zelda and I had actually started to get along pretty well. She is still not sure and not wanting my brother, Link, to be her own appointed knight.
I remember a time I overheard mention about that and she preferred me being her appointed knight but her father refused before telling her Link is the best suited knight to protect on her travels, ending the conversation. I snapped out of my thoughts and smiled when I heard Daruk say to Zelda with a smile of his own, "Ah! Count me in, tiny princess." He then added with a determined and proud look, "I'm the fearless Daruk, after all! And if Hyrule needs my help, I'll gladly lay down my life." "Thank you, Daruk!", Zelda happily says causing him to send her a cheeky adorable toothy grin. I rolled my eyes and smiled before he said, "Not sure if it's Calamity Ganon's fault or what, but I hear monsters have been attacking people more than ever lately. Times like these...you shouldn't leave the castle without a horde of mighty Gorons to watch your back."
"You sound like Father. He's assigning a knight to watch over me whenever I go. I hear the top contender is the most accomplished swordsman in all of Hyrule.", Zelda says looking away from him as she looked down at the path. I smiled knowing who she is referring to and Daruk went to say surprised, "Huh, that could only be..." "What's that?", I suddenly asked noticing something in the distance with a frown as I pointed at the direction. Daruk said curiously while looking at the direction, "Hm? What the..." We saw a pack of Boblins running towards something on the left side of the path and Daruk said irritated at the sight of them, "They really are all over the place these days."
We saw them circling and surrounding something as they screeched a bunch making Daruk asked concerned, "Hm? Is someone being attacked?" I glared at the monsters and Daruk said with a glare as well, "Cowards! Wait here, Princess." Daruk and I started charging towards the Boblins as the two guards make sure to stick close to Zelda while getting out their weapon. As we kept running, I pulled out my bow and pulled the string as I aimed causing a magical arrow to appear before Daruk gave a yell as he pulled out his weapon called the Boulder Breaker. One of the Boblins turned it's head towards us and screeched in alarm just before Daruk strikes at it with his Boulder Breaker then quickly hits the other Boblin with it.
He swings his weapon towards the air and the two Boblins go flying high into the sky as they screeched while I started shooting arrows at the other ones. Daruk then pounded his Boulder Breaker onto the ground causing it to make a big smash and the monsters go flying across while big amounts of dust go around us from the dirt. A couple of rocks landed on the ground around us and I coughed a little before I said to Daruk with my bow in one hand, "Oi. Give a little warning next time before you do that and so I wouldn't have to swallow large amounts of dirt." He gives me a sheepish look and shrugs before I ran towards the small group of the remaining Boblins. They all started to flee in fear and two of them ran into each other making them fall onto the group.
I ran up and kicked one in the butt as I yelled, "Go on! Get out here! Shoo!" It quickly ran away and they started to disappeared when I stood next to Daruk as he yelled at them, "Hmph! Spineless little cuccos! No monster stands a chance when fighting me, the almighty Daruk!" He places his weapon over his right shoulder and gives a laugh looking proud as I yelled raising my bow up in the air, "Yeah!" I saw Zelda and the two guards run up then stopping next to us as I strapped my bow onto my back while looking towards them. I looked at the guards and said reassuring, "It's safe now and they're all gone."
They nodded and a guard sheaths his sword. Zelda looked towards at something and said, "Oh." She walked over to the direction and I followed her to see who it was. She gets onto her knees with a smile and I crouch down onto one knee as she said to with her arms out, "You're safe." The dust cleared and showed it was a dog called a Hylian Shepard.
He got up and looked at us before he barked happily as he started to lick Zelda's face causing her to giggle. She rubs his the sides of his neck and said before he calmed down from excitement, "It seems our friend here was the one being attacked. Precious boy! You saved his life!" I smiled and petted him behind the ears making his foot thump a little then stopped as we looked over towards Daruk. Zelda and I started to look at him confused when he was shaking while looking at the dog nervously plus in fear. I raised a brow and asked, "Uh, Daruk? You okay there, big guy?"
He didn't answer and the dog looked at us before looking back at Daruk then gave out a single bark. Daruk screamed as he dropped his weapon and covered his head as he ducked while he activated his Protection ability. "Well...", Zelda says a little surprised and concerned while I looked at him a bit amused with a brow raised. The dog soon enough ran off down the path and stopped before crouching down in a playful state as he gave us thankful barks then ran off again while Daruk said, "Good riddance...and stay safe." Daruk scratches his head and said looking really embarrassed, "I'm sorry you guys had to see that side o' me. As a kid, dogs always chased me. I still panic when I see one o' those critters."
He looked at the other way still embarrassed and I said after laughing a little while giving him a pat on the arm reassuring, "Awww! That's alright, tough guy. Everyone has their own kind of fears and it's nothing to be ashamed of." "I never imagined the Great Daruk would have a weakness.", Zelda said with a smile while Daruk still looked away. He then said hesitantly, "So tell me...Princess...(Y/N)..." "Yes?", Zelda asked with a smile as her and I turned our heads slightly curiously. He added with a uneasy and hopeful look while looking back at us, "Calamity Ganon isn't, uh...some kind of a dog monster, is he?"
"Huh?", Zelda and I asked confused and surprised causing us to blink a few times. I then smiled and said while snickering a little, "Oh..." Zelda started giggling but tried to stop but couldn't help herself and we both started laughing a little causing Daruk to start chuckling. Then Zelda, Daruk, and I started to laugh knowing it was actually pretty funny.
That's it for Daruk's Song from Champions' Ballad! I hope all you liked it! The next one up on Champion's Ballad will be Mipha's Song!
