Chapter 7:

Cierra

"Cierra, are you ready?" I heard my mom call up the stairs. "Come on before we be late. I still gotta drop your brother off!"

"I'm coming right now!" I called while putting on my other shoe.

After we drop Devin off at school we are going to my doctor's appointment then I am heading to school late, but I should make my second period just in time.

"Oh you've gained 15 pounds since last years physical." The doctor said making me give her the side eye to her back as she looked on her computer. "You are still within your weight range for your age and height so that's okay."

She did everything that's done in a usual physical and asked a bunch of questions. Even the one question I hate the most since it's uncomfortable to answer in front of my mom especially since I am now sexually activity.

"Okay well we can go ahead and set you up for your first Pap smear since you are sexually activity." She said typing on the computer.

"Condoms at all times correct?" She asked me and I nodded. "Good."

"And can we also set her up for birth control pills?" My mom asked.

"Yup, we sure can." She said. "I'll have a nurse come in and give you a cup to pee in then I'll be back to send your prescription over to the pharmacy of your choice."

"Okay, thanks." I said.

"Okay, thank you." My mom said also.

I was putting my jacket on just as the doctor knocked and came back in just knowing I was gonna get my prescription and go.

"So your pregnancy test came back positive." The doctor said when she came back into the room.

I froze in my spot knowing I must have misheard her.

"Excuse me?" My mom asked.

The doctor asked me a few more questions then told me to go to the front where I would be scheduled for my next appointment which wouldn't be for another few weeks.

"Mom, please say something." I said since she's been silent since we left the doctor's office.

She just looked at me then looked back towards the road. I would rather her scream, cuss me out, threaten me, anything instead of her just being silent.

"Darrien will pick yall up then drop you off at work. Then I'll come pick you up from there." She said when we pulled up in front of my school.

"Okay." I said quietly before getting out and going inside to get a late pass, give my doctor's excuse, and get to class.

The next day she finally called me into her room to have a conversation after saying little to nothing to me since yesterday.

"Are you finally done ignoring me?" I asked.

"Sit down." Was all she said and I did.

"So you are gonna have a baby." Was all she said at first.

"I guess."

"You guess, what does that mean?" She asked.

"I guess I'm still just trying to take it in, but yeah."

"So what about all these big future career plans you have now that you are about to have a baby? What changes now?" She asked.

"I don't plan on anything changing now other than the fact that a baby will now be a part of the picture." I said speaking honestly. "I know it won't be easy, but I still wanna make things happen as I planned."
