Coming Home

Scarlet was just getting ready to do the dishes, she had them soaking in the water when her five-year-old son came and tugged on her pant leg.

Scarlet looked at her son with such love and sadness. He was like an exact replica of his father, Ze'ev Kesley, or as his friends fondly called him, Wolf. Scarlet missed him terribly. He had been away from three years to go fight with the military. He had yet to come back.

Scarlet returned her thoughts to her son, his vibrant green eyes conveying curiosity and life.

"What is it Zae?" Scarlet asked crouching down to his height.

"Will Daddy be able to come home for my birthday?" Zae asked with such a hopeful look, it killed Scarlet to tell him the most likely scenario. That his dad probably won't be able to be with his son when he turned six, that he probably won't be able to help him blow out the candles, but, there is the chance that he just might be able to.

"Well, Zae, I'm not-" Scarlet's words were cut off with a sharp knock on the front door. Scarlet stood up, slightly confused as to who could be out here at this time, most people are eating or cleaning up after dinner.

Scarlet walked to the front door and opened it. She was quite shocked to find a man in a military uniform at her door with a few more behind him.

His black hair was messy, and he stood tall with his shoulders back and hands slack at his sides. Behind him, was a man with blonde hair and blue eyes who also seemed to have a boundless amount of energy. Then, the last man had whitish-grey hair and had a black mask covering his nose and down. They all had solemn expressions that contained regret, anger, fear, and . . . sorrow?

"Hello," began Scarlet, "can I help you with anything?"

The man before her cleared his throat and gestured to the man with the mask. He came forward with a bag. Scarlet couldn't see what's inside the bag, though.

"We are so sorry for your loss Mrs. Kesley," the man with the

Scarlet looked confused for a minute, until, everything clicked.

Scarlet hadn't heard from Wolf in a few weeks, the men were wearing military uniforms, and the bag . . . it probably had all of Wolf's personal effects.

Scarlet started to let loose a few tears, trying to hold them back. But, when she saw Zae walk around the corner, she couldn't hold back any longer, she broke down.

Zae just looked too much like Wolf for her not to be able to think of him, and it only hurt her heart more because she knows that she will never see him again. She didn't even get to say goodbye.

Scarlet was crouched down on the floor with tears streaming down her face.

"Mommy," Zae said while running over and wiping her cheeks of the tears, that seemed to be endless, "why are you crying? And when will Daddy come home?"

Zae was so innocent and sweet, she just sobbed, not wanting to break his heart by telling him that his dad is dead and he is never going to see him again.

She composed herself a little before turning to the men at the door.

"Are you sure? Could you have made a mistake?" Scarlet was sounding so pathetically desperate, all clouded by the need to know she was wrong, that Wolf would come walking up the driveway, and come tell her it's all fine, that he was safe, and harmed, and he was staying home in time for Zae's birthday.

That man with the name tag Hatake spoke next, "We are terribly sorry, but yes. We are positive."

He held out the bag, inside was a blown up uniform, with one thing legible: Z. Kesley.

Scarlet just sobbed even more, now that it has been confirmed.

"Mommy, what's going on? Where's Daddy?" Zae asked confused.

Scarlet bent down to his height and picked him up to cuddle him close. Then she brought him out to arm's length, more tears threatening to spill over any second.

"Zae," Scarlet's voice cracked again and again as she spoke, this was the hardest thing she has ever had to do, "Daddy's not coming home . . . ever again."

Zae looked as if his whole world came crashing down around him. He was smart for a five-year-old, and he knew exactly what Scarlet meant when she told him the news. He just broke down and started to sob into his mother's chest, knowing nothing will ever be the same as it was before.

(Time Skip)

Scarlet and Zae were just laying on the bed in the spot Wolf would sleep in, just cuddling each other. They had barely left that position for three weeks. They felt so depressed and sad, they didn't feel up to anything anymore. The only got up to eat or use the restroom.

They had just begun to fall asleep when they heard the front door be unlocked and opened. Both Scarlet and Zae sat up and looked at each other with red-rimmed eyes.

They heard footsteps stop after the door shut, and a sigh. Scarlet told Zae to say there while he went to check out what was going on out there.

Scarlet had just gotten downstairs and entered the hall when she stopped dead in her tracks.

There, standing in front of her, was her husband, her lover, the father of her child, her rock, her foundation, her Wolf.

Scarlet refused to believe what she was seeing. That's impossible, he died.

Just then Wolf looked over and saw Scarlet and she could see the tears glistening in his eyes from where she was standing. He started to walk towards her, slowly, like she was a fragile deer he might frighten away.

"Hey Scar. I'm home," Wolf smiled at her with a gorgeous breathtaking smile.

Scarlet started to cry, knowing it was really, truly, for real him. Wolf walked over and wrapped her up in his arms. Scarlett sobbed into his chest, and locked her arms around his abdomen tightly, not willing to believe that this was just some sick trick her mind was playing on her.

"Please tell me its really you, that you are really here, with me and Zae. Please?" Scarlet had stopped sobbing enough to ask him that question.

"Yes, Scar. I am really home, and I'm staying home. Forever. I promise," Wolf bestowed another smile upon her, just before capturing her lips in an embrace of passion and long lonely months.

"Mommy, I know you told me to stay up there but . . . Daddy?" Zae said slightly amazed at seeing his father hugging his mother in the middle of the hallway.

"Hey, Zae. Yeah, it's me. I'm home, and here to stay," Wolf held open his arms to catch the crying boy in his embrace.

He held him tight and let his cry into the hollow of his neck, loving this moment and promising never to forget it for as long as he lived.

From that day on, they were the happiest family that anyone had ever seen in a while.
