Together, the sound of glass shattering into pieces and the shrilling of my aunt was a horrifying experience. I flinched when a bullet grazed my forearm before I ducked down on the floor. Amidst the raining of bullets and shards of glass, I fumbled for something to shield myself. Finally, a manequine stood behind me and I flung it down to use its manufactured frame over my own endangered one.

"Gerard, Kris!!" I called for my friends who were in the same defensive situation as I was. "Counter!!" I bellowed over the noise and called for my aunt, who, to my surprise, was still standing as still as rock in the middle of the room. "Aunt Alicia!!" I crawled to her side in haste and pulled her down before pushing her paralyzed body behind the counter. My hands we're bleeding with the shards of glass all over the floor but my body was too numb to understand this.

Fortunately, the counter was big and more than enough to protect five adults. "You're all okay?" I asked and my friends nodded stiffly as was Ella who was shaking furiously. I worried that she was going to pass out as she looked totally pale and lifeless. No longer than a minute, the noise had died down. "Stay here." I said and with fluid movements, crawled to the edge and peeped.

The entire store was broken and the bodyguard that was standing by the doorway earlier, was knocked down on the floor, dead. The street was barren as well, save for two lifeless bodies lying on the ground. Then, the sound of sirens echoed. "The police are here already." I sighed in relief before crawling back to my previous spot.

"Aunt Alicia?" I placed a hand on her shoulder; suspiscious on how unusually quiet she was. Her eyes, that were casted downwards, looked up to me. "G-grey..." she whispered with a groan. "What happened? Are you hurt?" I asked in alarm and then she detached her hand from her side, revealing a gunshot wound that bled profusely.

"Shit!!"

"Oh my God!!"

We all exclaimed as she whimpered helplessly. "Okay listen. Don't sleep okay?" I said as calmly as possible and she nodded languidly. "No matter what, don't close your eyes. Hang in there. We're getting you to the hospital." I assured her.

"This is the police!!" A voice, rough and definitive, rang from behind our defense. Tentatively, I cocked my head above the top of the counter and raised my hands in surrender seeing that numerous armed men had their guns pointed at me. "We need help." I said and in no time, three police circled us and inspected our condition. "Medics!! One shot by the abdomen!!" A police bellowed subsequently. At the same time, the rest of us were escorted towards the awaiting ambulance. Aside from my aunt, none of us took a serious damage than a few scratches. We were sat on folding chairs while being patched up by medical helpers. I didn't worry for us though, but instead, for my aunt who was shot near the kidney.

"Yes sir. Both dead on the spot." I overheard an officer speak through the phone and guessed that he was speaking of the two suspects whose blood pooled over the concrete road.

"No sir, it wasn't our men. They were dead before we arrived."

My attention was brought back to my aunt who was wailing for her husband while being strapped down the stretcher. "John.." she cried helplessly as she was being carried to the ambulance. "Grey, you comin'?" Gerard asked; a huge plaster was taped over his right forearm. "Yeah, let's go."
