Today is going to be bad. I can feel it. When I woke up, my dad was already yelling. I don't know what he was yelling about, but it was loud. I got ready quick, almost forgetting my bag. Instead of driving to school, I walk. It takes only fifteen minutes to get to the school, so it's not a big deal, just cold.
I walk the first few blocks, shivering from my lack of jacket. I walk past the same houses I've been walking past for years now. I know every bump in the road and crack in the sidewalk.
When I get to the highway, I press the cross button and wait, watching cars drive by, on their way to work, school, and other places more exciting than those. The skys a light blue, almost cloudless. When the light changes, I start to make my way across the road. Just then, a black car with dark tinted windows comes speeding down the street and skids to a stop just a few feet in front of me. The next thing I see is a tall, dark haired man hurrying out of the car.
"Oh my God, are you ok? Did I hit you? Do I need to take you to the hospital? " he says in a rush.
Recovering from the shock, I finally say angrily;
"Yes, I'm fine, if you'd hit me I'd be on the floor, and no, I don't need to go to the hospital, I need to get to school. "
Upon a closer look, the man isn't as old as I thought, he's a teenager, 17 at most. And, instead of being like most 17 year old boys I know with acne and (let's be honest) not the most flattering faces, his skin is tanned and clear, and he's probably the most gorgeous guy I've ever seen. His features are symmetrical, with defined cheekbones, a jawline that would make most girls go crazy, and deep green eyes, twinkling, but filled with concern.
"Can I give you a ride?" He asks. His voice is deep and smooth."Well it's only fair," I say grudgingly, glancing at the time on my phone. 10 minutes till school starts, and if I walked the rest of the way, I'd be late.
I get in his car fast, trying to ignore cars honking at us. After I get my seatbelt on, we speed off down the road.
"Where are we going?" He asks.
"Just a right here, and a left on Denborough," I say. I look down and see how fast we're going, over 90 mph. "Can you slow down," I ask nervously. "We don't want to almost kill the next girl crossing the road, right?" I say sarcastically.
He laughed. And the car slowed down.
"I'm sorry," he said, suddenly serious. "I wasn't paying attention,"
"Well, at least I'm not dead, " I say with fake enthusiasm, and give him a cheesy smile. He laughed again. His laugh is amazing, so spontaneous. I manage to hold down my laughter, and settle for a smile.
"True," he said, then a curious look crossed his face. "What's your name?" He asked.
"Lily." I say. "Yours?""Kai, " he said back.
Maybe today's going to be better than I thought.
