Kai led us to his car, which was only a short walk from where we were. Of course we had to walk past a group of groupie's, delaying  us another five minutes. The car was the same shiny black one that almost killed me. When I was getting Trish in, she hopped back out of the car and threw up all over the asphalt. Kai looked at me warily and said,

"She better not do that in my car."

"I can't promise that, but I can try to keep her contained, maybe even sleep," I said. "How long is the drive to your house?" I asked. The closest civilization to this place was a run down shopping mall that was the kind of place in movies where people got killed. Not the safest place for three teens, one of them being super drunk.

"Oh, about fifteen minutes away," he said. "I'm staying at my Uncle Mirkwood's place."

"Mirkwood as in the millionaire Mirkwood?" I asked, dumbfounded. "James Mirkwood?"

"Yep. that's the guy," he said. "He's the one who gave me the money to start my music career, and has been my legal guardian ever since I was nine."

"Oh," I say, not able to think of anything else to say.

"Yeah," Kai said. "My parents died in a car crash when I was eight, so I spent some time in an orphanage thinking I had no family left when my uncle showed up. So, he raised me, I was home schooled which was probably why nobody had ever heard of me," he continued.

"Wow," I said. "That sucks."

"Yeah." He said back. We were quiet for the rest of the drive, not saying a single word.

When we pulled into his driveway, another four minutes of driving because it was buried so deep in the woods, he finally decided to talk again.

"So what's the deal with her parents?" He asked, nodding to Trish.

"What do you mean?" I asked back.

"Why are they so strict about drinking? Weren't they teenagers at some point?"

"Oh," I said. "Well, her mom's been through a lot. One night, when she was a teen like us, her dad drank a bit too much and killed her mother. I'm sure her dad wouldn't mind, but, yeah."

"Oh. Wow," he said. "If you're comfortable sharing..."

"Um. Sure. My life has been pretty normal for someone who grew up where I did. My mom's the best person I've ever met, she's always there for me, never left me anywhere unsafe, protected me from all the bullies and kids that made fun of me, and gave me the best life she could. She had me young, so I was about six when she married my dad." I took a breath, not sure if I wanted to share this with anybody else. All my life I've been afraid of people thinking I'm weak for fearing my dad, and I definitely don't want to ruin anything I might have with Kai. I Gave in.

"Uh, and my dad loves me just as much as I love him," I said. Which was entirely true, but not.

"Oh that's nice," Kai said, looking relieved. Probably because he didn't want to have to deal with a broken girl and her problems and fears.

"Here we are," Kai said. The house was spectacular. A three story masterpiece. It was huge, with a giant pool visible from the garage. The paint on the outside looked freshly done.

"Wow." I said under my breath. Kai heard and laughed.

He lead Trish and I to our rooms, which were huge, and also right next to each other. The bed in my room was a king size, with big fluffy pillows. It was completed with a full sized bathroom, with a giant bath tub.

"My rooms just down the hall on the left," he said pointing to a door down the hall.

"Okay," I said. "I'm just going to help Trish get settled. If she makes a mess, I'll clean it up in the morning,"

"Oh it's quite alright," Kai said. "House keeping will just get it later," He said in a snobbish voice. I laughed. "No seriously though," He continued. "I really do have house keeping. I couldn't keep this place clean, let alone do my own laundry." I laughed again.

"Good night," I said.

"Night," He said back.

I took Trish into her room, setting her up on the bed with the trash can from the bathroom (also a full size) right next to her.

"He's into you," She said, slightly slurring her words.

"Who?" I ask.

"That guy that almost killed you," She said looking disappointed in me.

"Definitely not," I said. "You're drunk. Go to sleep."

"Mmmm," She mumbled, and then fell asleep. I walked back to my room, trying to be quiet. When I got there, I took off my shoes, climbed under the covers, and fell asleep.
