Caspian the Only

From rebel prince to precious king,

Caspian didn't name his son after himself,

Or his father,

Or his father's father.

Caspian the Tenth was the last Telmarine of Narnia:

The last in the line of pirates and plunderers,

Murderers, false prophets, scheming protectors.

The Telmarine Prince became the Narnian King,

And he became the First in this new line.

Caspian, named for an ocean he'd never seen,

Took to the only ocean he could reach,

And hit the edge,

And turned back.

Yet Caspian didn't name his son after himself,

The Seafarer, the Sea,

Or the false kings before him.

Caspian the Tenth was Caspian the Last,

And yet, the First.

A forgotten prince,

Turned a king of rebellion,

Turned True;

He married a lady of the stars,

And had a son.

(The lost) Prince Rilian,

Named not for Caspian,

The Tenth, or the Ninth, or the Fifth, or the Third.

Named not for his father.

Rillian the First, perhaps the last,

All because Caspian wouldn't name his son the Eleventh:

The next heir in a false dynasty.

So Caspian the Tenth became Caspian the Only.

His own people who had forgotten him were forgotten in turn.

So this boy ended his line,

And started a new one,

In a New Narnia.

This boy became the only Caspian worth remembering.

A/N: Happy New Year! Thank you to all of you who have been reading these and giving me feedback so far! I hope your 2018 is wonderful! And just a heads up, but I won't be posting as often in the new year. I'm hoping I can still post once a week, but we'll have to see! I do have a lot of fun (and heartbreaking, sorry not sorry,) stories planned and in progress, but they will be a little more spaced apart. Once again, thank you all, and Happy New Year!
