Cole was becoming distant again and Sam noticed, though he hadn't said anything. He watched Cole slowly become the boy in the shadows again, he started keeping to himself and you could barely find him during lunch. Sam watched the brunet disappear from his life all over again and he finally decided to do something about it.
"Hey Sam, It's Colby. I know it's three in the morning and that's probably really early for you since most likely not awake, but we gotta talk. This isn't working out. Honestly I didn't think it would. This friendship or whatever this is, it needs to end. I'm sorry, bye Samuel." Coles voice was quiet and every now and then he'd pause, take a deep breath and rub his nose. He listened to his voicemail a total of twenty three times while the tears cascaded down his face. He kept telling himself to send the voicemail, to get it over with, it wouldn't have worked out in the end anyway.
Cole stared at the keypad on his phone, the red button drawing him in but each time he were about to end the call his eyes would shoot back up and replay his apology all over again.
Every time he just wanted to end it and be done with it something in his stomach would twist and make him feel sick, he wanted to know if it were really worth it; ending whatever was between him and Sam just because of the things Brennen said. The dagger like words that pierced his back by his best friend. He cringed. He couldn't called Brennen those two words ever again, they were meaningless.
Colby felt his phone vibrating in his hands and he shook his head out of his thoughts. Sam was calling him, he realized. The call had ended on its own because of his sudden inactivity, he had been knee deep in his head again.
