"I look stupid." Colby groaned as his arms fell to his sides in exasperation.
"You don't look stupid. You look handsome." Sam contradicted while placing a soft smile on his face. He admired the way Colby looked in a tuxedo.
"I thought it was bad luck or something to see me before prom."
"Are you sure you weren't thinking of a wedding?" Sam chuckled as he took two steps closer to the brunet trying to fix his crooked pink bow tie but Colby batted his hands away, "I'm just trying to fix it!"
"You can fix it when you fix your sexuality." Colby chuckled while rolling his eyes.
"Sooo, never?"
"Yeah, never." Colby stared at himself in the body mirror while Sam continued to get ready. The only thing Colby could think of that would ruin this big night would be Brennen. Nobody had seen Brennen in a couple weeks, it was almost like he disappeared from the face of the earth. "Any word of Brennen?"
"Nope, none. Stop worrying, I highly doubt he'll show up at prom of all places." Sam turned back around and flashed his boyfriend a bright smile, "And even if he does show up I can always just kick his ass like I did last time."
"Yeah and that got you suspended for a week." Colby rolled his eyes as he finally fixed his crooked bow tie that Sam's fingers had been itching to fix for the past fifteen minutes.
Sam stared at Colby. The brunet had a warm smile displayed on his face, he was a completely different person from the one he had met at the beginning of the school year. Sam felt his chest collapse as he suddenly thought of the news he had to break to Colby, he felt his heart start beating faster, his stomach churning at the thought. Eventually, Sam told himself for the millionth time that night, eventually, he repeated to himself. He didn't want to taint his mind with the image of Colby and himself crying. He didn't want to ruin their prom.
"Sammy?" He found himself shaking his head and meeting Colby's gaze, "You okay?"
"Uhm, yeah." Sam forced a smile, the pain evident in his eyes. "I'm all good." He noticed Colby's eyes narrow as he quickly looked away, trying to distract himself with anything other than his mind.
"You're absolutely sure?" Colby slowly took a seat next to Sam on his bed, "You seem. . . exhausted, pained, even."
"It's not important right now, I'll tell you later. After prom." Sam sighed as he gave a soft smile to the now curious brunet.
"Promise, airplane boy?"
"Promise."

I changed the story a bit 😫, not by a lot don't worry lmao. I just edited it so Colby is calling Sam Airplane Boy, bc in order for the ending I have planned Sam has to have a nickname and airplane boy just makes sense.
